P**** willows

Fort Wayne, IN(Zone 5b)

I had gotten a Pink P willow last year it did fine all late summer and fall.
We had some weird snafuu weather and now it don't look so good.
is it a gonner or are they just late bloomers?

Please advise

What's with this "P***" business? What are you pussy-footing around?
Seriously, though, the willows are all blooming here, so if yours has not done it's thing yet, it may not be going to. Are there leaves showing, or do the branches look completely dead?

Sounds like your plant is a goner.

I was trying to be polite didn't know if I was allowed to use pussy or not!

there are no leaves and the branches look likekinda grey with some dark brown patches on them.
everthing is startin out late so wasn't sure
my neighbor had tulips blooming before mine even cleared the top surface.

Boo Hoo now I gotta try and find another one.
Got it at Lowe's last year when I was workin in the nursery as a vendor
there was only one pink one in the bunch.
Guessin that means my pink lemon-aid huneysuckle is in Garden heaven as well

Thanks for answering me

Late cold snaps don't necessarily kill the plants, you probably won't get blooms this year but I wouldn't write them off as dead yet, more than likely they'll come back. Best thing to do is be patient for a little while and see what happens.

my neighbor had an established pussy willow that he cut completely down, it sulked for a whole year, nothing one whole summer, then regrew.

If you want to be impatient, prune back one of the branches and take a close look at the cut end. If there's sap or green showing anywhere, there's hope. If it's dry and brown, cut further back and look again. If you get all the way to the ground and no signs of life, check the roots for activity. If they are alive, they will be growing little feeder roots, like hairs. I was going to throw out my "dead" fuchsia plant this spring, until I looked at the roots.

You cracked me up with the "P***" stuff. I'm glad your your P-willow wasn't eaten by a B****.

Even when I think a plant is a goner, I still leave it be to wait it out. Many a plant has pleasantly surprised me with a remarkable comeback. I don't know that I'd dig it up just yet and run out and replace it, it is a salix.

well I'm glad I cracked you up...I guess I haven't been here very much so don't know the rules. didn't want my thread to get yanked for inappropriate behavior that's all

Thank you for the info I think I am goin to just let it be for a while

I grow 19 different species of willow. S. schraderiana is the last to bloom, and its catkins opened on April 22 here in zone 4.

Update on the P*** situation: I am now informed that if the P-word is included anywhere in a website, even innocently and correctly as we have been doing, it may cause the website to be "blocked" by software that folks have installed for childproofing their computer! You were right to be cautious, Bluewolf, and I stand corrected.

Leftwood,
Please forgive my lack of knowledge.
Is the variety that you spoke of my "pink" one?

I am in zone 5/6 depending on whose map you look at!

So maybe because of the weird cold snap it went back to sleep for a little bit?

I hope so! I will keep my fingers crossed!

June_Ontario,

I try to be good:)

I do have to however agree with you that the use of that word in this context sould be allowed!
It's the plants name for pity's sake!

but I have been "zapped" on other boards for sayin alot less!

Well curiousity didn't kill the cat this time.
Went out and kinda dug around the "root ball" and found white roots.
and it was root bound(not easy to pull up)
I didn't pry it up to much as to not damage anything
So that is a good sign right?
Keep your fingers crossed!
