Good ole Nelly Mosher!
Let's see your blooms!
This is supposed to be "Elsa Spaeth". I just got this plant from Brushwood this spring. I'ts only a couple of feet tall and to my surprise, has put out two blossoms. Now, they don't look like most photos of this variety, but I'm thinking it's because, either it's so small or it only gets morning sun, or some combination. This little blossom, which you can see is not fully open, is only about 3" across at most.
Regardless, I danced a little jig when I saw it. :)
Deb
Deb, it's beautiful, especially with the yellow rose. Brushwood has some wonderful plants...I also ordered quite a few this spring.
Karen
Mainiac -Nelly is beautiful!
DebinSC - What a lovely combination. And was a vivid purple!
Can't wait until I have more blooms to show. Some bugs were eating into the leaves and flowers so I sprayed them all with Safer's Insecticidal Soap and absolutely ruined the blooms - won't do that again.
OOOhhh, I might just have to have Princess Di. Just love this one!
Gorgeous Clematis blooms everyone! Such wonderful eye poppin' color that comes in so many different shapes & forms!
Beautiful blooms, EmmyC! Yours should be a clinging/climbing Clematis.
Gary: Lovely seedling! I like the reddish starburst effect in the center. Who is this a seedling of?
Our clematis have really been blooming - however, something is eating the leaves and the blooms ---- any ideas??
Shirley,
That's the seediling from HF Young, Have no Idea who it crossed pollenated with, as I have several. How ever remeber the odd one from a couple years ago that had two different blooms on the same vine. Could possibly be from that as it was close the that vine when i found it and potted it up. Actually you can see the seedling in the photo, it is in the lower left hand conner of the photo just to the right of the weed.lol

ChefzMom - Hope someone with experience will chime in here. Personally - I sprayed mine with Safer's Insecticidal Soap - and it ruined the blooms by discoloring them.
I used Specticide insecticide granules - a systemic bug poison and sprinkled it around the roots and watered it in. If you use this Be Careful and follow the directions. It is quite toxic, but very effective.
I hate using poisons!
beaker_ch, your photos are beautiful. What a beautiful selection of clematis you have.
This thread is so helpful to us newbies. We get to see how these plants grow in actual garden. Please keep those photos coming.
beaker_ch: What beautiful Clematis blooms you have in your garden! 'Jackmanii' is drop dead gorgeous! I couldn't even begin to count all those blooms!
Shirley, my Proteus usually get doubles first then singles. Did you have a Spring Freeze? This year all my clematis (except Niobe) died back to the ground. New shoots eventually came up. We had the Spring freeze in April. I know it effected them.
Linda
Shirley...isn't "Bourbon" stunning!! I just planted one a month or so ago!!..And I have never seen "Victoria"...very beautiful....Jeanne
Wow Shirley! those are beautiful! I bet they are going to go even more crazy after all this rain!
Casey/Nikki
RDT: We didn't have a Spring frost, however, my 'Proteus' is in a huge planter for the past year. Maybe that has something to do with it putting out single flowers first. I'm going to plant it in my garden this Fall.
Thanks Jeanne! Yes, 'Bourbon' is one of my all time favorites! I just love it's eye poppin' color. I also have it growing in a container. I haven't decided if I'm going to plant it in my garden or keep it in a pot, so that I can bring it inside for the Winter.
Hi Casey! Good to see you here! Yes, the rain was wonderful and the best part is that no 'extra' watering was needed! I've really loved the cooler temps too. However, this won't last much longer.....
Se_eds: Love 'Climador'! It's a bloomin' machine!
Oh No Shirley..you have to deal with those buggers!!..grrr...glad I don't have those...It's purty...Jeanne
