Hi everyone,
I have a very large lilac tree/bush in my yard and every year it gets around a hundred suckers around the bottom.Last year i did not dig them up so they are pretty large this year. Does any one know an easier way to dig these up. I have a small yard so I have to contain this bush and the last time I did this I had to used an ax to cut the roots before I could dig. I am not looking forward to this.
Any ideas or will I just have to do the old way?
Thanks,
Sue
Lilac questions
Sue, are you taking out (pruning) a 1/3 of the old growth each year? Or are you leaving all the old growth? Is it an old fashioned lilac bush? Blooms purple? Prone to powdery mildew?
Yep it is as very old lilac bush, just as you described.
I just dig up the little plants around the edges.
