I am currently in alaska in Fairbanks and the locals are telling me that the trees here in one day green up and leaf out in 24 to 48 hours. Now I know you won't believe me but it is supposed to happen tomorrow or the next day. So I thought I would record it visually. this is tonight outside my apartment looking at the trees. I will post tomorrow and there on to show this rapid leafing out only found near the artic Circle.
To experience "The Green Up" in Fairbanks
Cool! I believe Weezingreens has mentioned this before.
One conspicuous change, a whole lot of large spruces have suddenly appeared, which weren't there yesterday . . . I didn't know they grew that fast!!

I suspect Sofer shrank -- or supine sipping sumptuous salmonberry spirits...
By Salmonberry spirits do you mean: fermented fish feces frappe...
Sofer,
I spent 8 years in Fairbanks.. the "oldtimers" there say... wait for the "windy" day (not much wind normally).. that is Mother Nature cleaning off the old from the trees, the next day they will open... has held pretty true, even here in Illinois, where it is windy most of the time... but DH thinks I am physic.. you can tell the difference between windy and the cleansing wind.
Sofer, show us some of the "Balsam Poplars"....are they earlier than the Paper birches which I'm assuming are displayed in the pics?
conifer50
I was just up in them this morning and will photo graph them tomorrow when I go up to the north. Yes they are already greening up. I want to show DGers the trees here. Maybe tomorrow.
I won't bore you with another unchanged picture but the "cleansing wind" is blowing today. So Maybe tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
So Maybe tomorrow
Or maybe not?

This is like "waiting for Godot"...
Sorry guys but I lost my internet connection on my PC. Darn Verizon. Anyway it has been cloudy here and as far as I am concerned no big deal on "green up". Still starting to open and about the same rate as Montana. Sorry for the let down. I think it is more like waiting for the Easter Bunny at age 50. LOL
Maybe Godot ate the Easter Bunny?
Marinated, with a oaky Cabernet reduction sauce.
OK I'll bite. I know that there is a story, novel, play or something "Waiting for Godot" but I haven't read it or know what the source is. Probably Shakespeare cause I hate Shakespear undeciferable babble that everyone says they understand. We poorly cultured want to know who, and why is anyone waiting for Godot? Steve.
Rats! I was sitting here transfixed, waiting to be wooed by the willful whims of a wabbit!?
Sofer: Waiting for Godot, is a play. I saw it performed once in amateur theatre. Anyhow, he never showed up.
That's what the whole play was about. Waiting for someone who didn't show up. Kind of like waiting dinner for some men Ive known.
Hey there, Buckaroo! a little bit of google can answer you query. But no, it wasn't that Shakespear guy, it was Samuel Beckett. This was a very important post war play. And yes Godot never comes...
Of course, men late for dinner never do either, but this play isn't about dinner. I am not sure, but I think it may have been partly or wholy responsible for the "theatre of the ubsurd", a play movement popular in the 50's most notably mastered by Ionesco...
So, what do the cleansing winds sound like...
