solid white purpureas

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

You know since I have expanded my garden form SOH and Heavenly blues three years ago to growing a lot of different kinds I have found something I think is neat. It is a purpurea and probably just a regular old purpurea but it is solid white. I`m pretty sure I didn`t put any tri color seeds there.

Is that common? I didn`t know they came in solid white. I was going to take pictures but my camera needs fresh batteries. I have to get going. Ya`ll have a good day!

I got a solid white one year from SOH pack. Very strange to find a white flower when you expect red. Here it is, I think I've posted this one before, so excuse the repeat.

gardener2005 - yes, there's solid white purpureas...seeds are most often light but there are rare dark seeded white purpureas...

Gourd - the solids throw whites here'n'there...sometimes the whites will still carry for color...sometimes not...there are different genes that can produce white...

I have some whites that have come out of darker colors...

The darker colors will sometimes throw lighter colors...

Gourd is that a Brug on your left?

Ron, That`s cool. Thanks. I marked the vine and will probably end up replanting those to see if they come back the same.

Gourd, I found some tan seeds in my SOH pack this year. I planted them seperate from the others to see what happens. It could be a company mix up or perhaps it occured naturally. I think the white ones are pretty.

Paul, yes those were Brugs.. used to grow them in CA, nothing here though.

Gardener,
The seeds I have are black., also, I started some seeds collected from the white flower and also started some seeds from the pack. All the seeds are black in these packs. It will be interesting to see what we get. I also started some really small seeds that say SOH, from a trade with no name on it.. just to see the difference.
