Has anyone tried these----Tell me about them----Thanks, Beth
Toad lilies
Shade plant. Wonderful orchid like blooms, easy to grow, very hardy and a nice late season (Sept-Oct) bloomer. One of my last plants to bloom. I have about 5 or 6 and all have been a nice addition, especially for late summer/fall color. Hope that helps. You might also list this in the perennial forum, it's mostly lilium (the species) crazy folks around here.
Happy Gardening!
THANKS
I know that I'll love the flowers-----My dog has dug then up once---Now I have a chair guarding the spot so they'll have a chance. The picture was great. Thanks, Beth
I also planted my first one today. The slugs, and snail love these. Take precaution for them. They makes holes on my plants. Looking forward to autumn, but enjoy the Liliums now in blooms.
New to the lily forum, but thought I'd bump the thread. I've gone nuts for toad lilies. I've planted one this year that is supposed to be yellow flowering. It's called Lemon Twist. Right now, it's growing like crazy! Can't wait to see it bloom this fall!

Can someone tell me how often they should be fertilized and what to use?
I have top dressed my beds with composted cow manure, very lightly, otherwiose I use nothing else. They don't seem to be heavy feeders and bloom just fine doing the minimal. At least that has been my experience.
I got 8 of them at a round-up. Planted them in a big pot and put them on my front entryway. I mixed the soil with black kow & bone meal. Guess that's enough for this year?
i have 2 bed's of them from last year and this year. i just plant and leave alone. they are in raised beds next to my hostas. i don't fertilize or anything plant and just water as needed. mine are healthy and nice established outside. the ones inside in my green house with plant spikes are tall and lanky not looking so good. i have had better luck with them outdoors.
these are awesome flowers and one of my favorites but are little bout 1" it's the only thing i don't like about them otherwise i love them. i have hirta, blue wonder and some others(can't think names at the moment). mine start flowering in sept. if ya do seeds for them direct sow outside babies are to fragile to usally move or usually die after moveing. they will bloom from seed in first year as a mature plant is considered about 8". blue wonder, marcropada(sp) are 2 very awesome looking ones if ya haven't seen pics check them out. also if you want them to multiply divide the roots or collect the seed pods. in one year mine have enough to make 1-2 more plants each with the roots haveing eyes and they started as 1-size #1 root divisions.
