AZ Grown Plumerias

Yuma, AZ

This is the first in line in the previous pic, gets sun from sun up til 3 pm, taking the heat well. Been in the ground over a year.

This is the second in line, also been in the ground for over a year, holding up OK, but not as well as the other two varieties next to it. It gets sun until 4pm.

The third in line. Gets the most sun, and oddly enough is doing the best. I have four more of this same variety and they are all doing awesome like this one. It gets sun until 5pm. It has been in the ground for over a year.

This variety is not taking the heat/sun at all. The branches are getting sun burned and the leaves yellow quickly. It gets sun/shade off and on throughout the day. It has been in the ground less than a year. I'm going to have to move this to a shadier spot soon.

This one I just put in this past march. It went through some shock when it got really hot, but looks like it is going to come back. It may have just needed time to become established. It gets sun most of the day.

Some I have in a pot, two different varieties, both doing awesome. They get shade off and on during the day.

One my friend rescued from an abandoned house, had no water for a long time. Finally coming back around. Gets shade from 1 pm on. Plan on exposing it to more light when it gets back on its feet.

This is also among the ones buried in pots. It has grown over 17" since coming out of dormancy back in march. You can see the old grey growth at the very bottom of the plant. The rest is all new growth. This is the hardiest plant I have, but it grows too fast. The mother tree I got the cutting from grew 31/2' in one season, before flowering or branching. It only branched twice at each inflo. It has huge white flowers with yellow centers, and smells great.

another pic, notice how large the gap is between leaves.

These are at my shade house. Most or doing awesome. Some of these have been rooted since last year, and some I started in March.

Some new flowers. These are large, but thin, and only last a few days in the heat.

Pink stripe on back of previous flower.

Nice red that holds well, even through the heat. Other reds I have got black and never opened during the heat spike.

Inflo starting to leaf. I have seen this in books, but first time its happened to me.

Another oddity. This cutting just keeps producing leaves that won't open.

Davie, are you the one that got 'Almost Black' from Evelyn like I did? If so, you can change your tag to 'Hilo Beauty' if you want. I've consulted several people that I consider to be experts, and the conclusion is that it is 'Hilo Beauty.'

Clair,
That's good to know. I'm not sure were mine is right now or if it suffered a death while we were gone.
