Maxine's Martagons are Popping Up!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Maxine was kind enough to send me several of her martagons in exchange for a nice box of my TB iris last year. They are happily planted on the NE side of my house and popped up 6 inches while I was on my motorcycle trip last week!

You sure can't go wrong trading with Maxine.............. I bulb and three stems, boy do I owe Maxine big time for all the beauty my gardens will enjoy in the years to come!

Aren't DGers the best? Lilydigger also gave me a clump of Claude Shride last fall and I just plopped the entire clump in the ground as I was short on time. It looks like I have 3 nice stems coming up. I have high hopes of seeing blooms. Now, if I can just keep the new pup out of there!

New pup = wire for sure.

kids & throwing balls = wire

bunnies = wire

all around martagons of course.

And pray for no frost. I've got my pots & blankets ready to put over mine.

My Martagons are in the front bed and the dogs get fenced in back. :)

I moved Terrace City last fall top the front. Waited for 2 years to get a good stalk & buds just to see the fool dog snap it off chasing rabbits! :( I have had to put tomatoe supports around most of the lilies to keep the dogs from trampling them as they run the fenceline with neighbor's dogs. Not fun.

Wanda, it's a good thing that dog can hunt. :)

Yeah, or I would have let him loose to run in traffic a long time ago.... Wait until you see the mess he & Norman made of trampling the grass into mud by the walks... grrrr

Grass . . . who cares about grass? Although I wouldn't care for the mud in the house.

I have enough mud now after the two dogs have been playing. Whatever possessed me to put in a white kitchen /hallway floor????
