What shrub would you use?

Weatherford, TX

I want to plant a shrub to hide the gas meter (about 2 feet tall) in my side yard. I would like a shrub that is a nice speciman and won't require anything more than a little regular watering. Short or tall doesn't matter. Evergreen would be best. I was thinking of a Nandina, but there are so many I'm confused which might be best. Or do you have any other ideas? Thanks in advance. I'll just hang up and listen now. :o)

juniper ?

How about putting up a little trellis/lattice and grow a vine up it? That way you can hide it but still maintain access, otherwise if you try to hide it with a shrub the shrub may get out of control and make it hard for the meter reader to get to it.

I'll second ecrane's idea, unless you don't want the meter to be read.

Nandina's get so leggy that you can eventually see right under them. I think a Yaupon holly would work fine for full sun,or you could use azaleas if there is some shade. A dwarf palm like Sabal palmetto is another option.

I painted mine a shade of green that matches my grass about three years ago. It still looks great and blends into the landscape.

Thanks for the great ideas! I may have to paint mine brick red, as it sits right up against the house.
