I was sitting in my office browsing on Dave's when I heard this horrific noise. I looked out the window and spotted this woodpecker beating the crud out of the plexiglass on this feeder trying to get to some sunflowers. He did this several times making a really loud noise. I reached over and grabbed the camera. Got this shot just before he flew off. It's grainy, but oh well!

Daily pics vol.10
Thats funny!
Nice pic! :)
AWESOME! I feel like I was there! Thanks!

Great captures Murmur!!!
Murmur, nice series. It's obvious you do the same thing I do - as long as there is still action - keep shooting.
LOL, Gras - you are so right . . . and that "burst" mode on my Sony is going to be the death of me! I was absolutely floored to find I had taken over 700 photos of some windsurfers one day!! Needless to say, I haven't done much editing - it's overwhelming to have that many of one event!
What a treat Murmur!! I have never seen anything like that! I swear I could hear "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies" in my head as I was watching.
Great dance, loved it. So much fun watching in the spring flings. It is hard not to giggle.
I posted this picture in another forum here, but wanted to put it on a bird thread. I scraped up some junk wood and made a simple oriole feeder. I hung it up, waited and soon was rewarded with this guy, who seemed to love the grape jelly.
Thats great cpart! I've never seen one of those. Is that skewers holding the oranges?
Gras- Love the Golden-crowned Sparrow.
Yes, Every part of this feeder was recycled. The wood was scraps from building the house, the screws were removed from another project that was taken apart, the bowl was from my mother's senior center dinner, and the skewers were from the kabobs from a BBQ.
I had seen a picture of a simular feeder and wanted one. I always feed oranges to the orioles, but the jelly was harder. Seems that raccoons also like grape jelly. This is working well, although not the prettiest, the oriole sure makes it look nicer.
Whats the metal hanger type things above the orange on the right?
Great photos folks. Murmur you said, and that "burst" mode on my Sony is going to be the death of me! I was absolutely floored to find I had taken over 700 photos of some windsurfers one day!! Needless to say, I haven't done much editing - it's overwhelming to have that many of one event!
I have a Sony also with the burst mode. We went to the beach for New Year's and I took some fireworks shots in burst mode. I didn't even know that was on my camera until the gal we were with said something about it. I can view them all on the camera, but once they get to the computer... I haven't yet figured out how to get individual photos from the single 16 photo shot. What's the secret??? Do I HAVE to read the manual??? Ugggggghh!!!! (Not my favorite thing to do since I have to figure out what they are trying to tell me not knowing gizmo language.)
The photo attached is the only one that I didn't snag a single photo from and then delete the rest. I loved the way the photos were "action" shots on the camera, but couldn't ever figure out how to show that on my computer.

two gulls doing a courtship dance
Looks more like a fight to me!
Not least the brown bird is a one-year old, nowhere near old enough to be breeding yet (they don't breed until they are 4, usually).

Halarious pics Murmur!!
Resin, I'm so disappointed - thought I was seeing something really special!! LOL - oh, well, it was still entertaining. I guess I'm surprised it went on for so long without one of them flying away. And I would have sworn what I saw towards the end was not fighting - lol - shows how much I know!!! Maybe my DH and I should have a talk.
My dog will "court" other males and females not ready to breed, so maybe the birds are just confused.
(Oh my, I amuse myself, sometimes things should be left in the thought process and not get to the typing fingers)
Anyway, I had to go back to my oriole picture and see what the wire thing was. First of all, this is a very clear picture before I put it on here and by clicking on it I find it blurry. I am dissapointed. Second, those are just oak branches that you are seeing. I hung the feeder in a young oak and they are not leafed out yet. I had to look because I also have a chime in that tree, a hummer feeder, and a bird with spinny wings. Yet, the birds still come in.
Janet, I just plug my camera into my computer and all the photos download - each one is completely separate even if I have used the burst mode for tons of pics. It doesn't really look like an action video or anything, just photos in sequence.
I hate reading manuals, too - but doggone - this camera is awesome and capable of so much . . . you'd think I'd want to learn more! Well, I do want to learn more, but I want to learn by osmosis.
Cparts, your feeder is great - I know I've said this on several threads, but gosh I wish we could get Orioles out here!
Murmur,
You have your share of great birds and a wonderful views too. Yes, the Baltimore Oriole is beautiful, even prettier in person. Glad we all can share what is in our area for everyone to enjoy.
Resin, I'm so disappointed - thought I was seeing something really special!! LOL - oh, well, it was still entertaining
It could always have been worse . . . gull paedophilia and child rape . . . it really wouldn't surprise me with gulls!
