Wow, those are some feet. Good thing you're not buying him shoes. LOL
I don't think he's a white leghorn. I had those and none had feet and legs like that at any age.
See the second pictures down on this page and the one at the bottom. Doesn't that look like his feet? If he is a meat bird that fell off a truck, you saved him from a dire fate, Eufaula.

New Roo's
Turkeybeard, I did but my son was to young to under stand about
chickens and chicks. Now I'm trying to set a point to him because
I'm sending some silkie eggs to school for his class room to hatch for me and maybe it'll help him understand more...
Tracey
hart, I agree. He looks just like the cornish x we have next door to us. Not all the roos got to be that enormous size, but they all had big big feet. Some of the roos are just beautiful white and gold boys. The ladies are all fat asa can be ( isn't it always the way!) My neighbor's daughter wouldn't let him slaughter them all. She got attached. She has about 10. The roos are normal proportioned roos and the gals are so fat that they mostly just like to hang out and put their faces in the feed dish and take a nap.
BackyardHens,
I may have something that looks like that...
but one of the silkies girls broken an egg in her and the bus drive
said brake it up more and it will pass.
Eu,
How are your parent's doing???
And how are your chickens and chicks???

Hey every one! Im back! We came home last night! I couldnt stay away from my babies another day, and My fear was warranted!!!!! We no longer have John Wayne, My Red Cochin Hen, and 3 of my new brown egg layer babies! Apparently the feral ,sneaky, son of a biscuit eatin' Beagle ding dang dog, that roams our area knew DH and I both had gone! She came and just helped herself to my babies,I found JW's sweet white feathers in a heap next to the barn , and no site of any of the rest!
Dear Turkeybeard , came by to check out Little John Wayne, and he was just as devastated as I am about his demise!

Heres my poor Partidge Cochin Rooster, Choc-o-latte, He lost his wife! He was in Shock when I found him in the back of the barn! All drawn up in a ball, scared to death. But he is better now ! You can see where he lost some of his feathers on hisback at the tail.

Sorry Eu, about your hen.
Tracey
So sorry, Eufaula. That's awful. Whose dog is it?
Its a Feral dog We think! No one in the area will claim her! All I know is that she has no collar and is pregnant every six months or so! We call the Animal control and they say they cant find her! Yet every one in the neighborhood sees her on a daily basis wondering! She goes into the wooded area across from me which is a protected private hunting club and hides and raises her pups! You never see the pups though , that is why I wonder if she doesnt belong to some one! Someone has to have those pups, or at least has access to them to feed them or give them a home! If there wasnt a family taking care of them there would be at least 10 or more wild dogs in the area! At any rate we only see her when she is in heat and when she is pregnant trying to feed! I do Not like killing dogs but she is so street smart and people knowledgeble that she knows when no one is home so she can prey on your animals! And Yes I have seen her, carrying chickens in her mouth running like crazy for the woods! Unfortunately , several chickens , ( grown Barred Rocks) have been mine!
Well We ran the Dog off again yesterday afternoon! Or rather she saw us first and took off at a rate that would have rivalled the fastest race driver! I wish I had had my camera! That way we could have given the Animal control her ID!
Now we have another problem! My little Chihuahua, Mr.Pepe, woke us up at 4 AM, going crazy! I grabbed the Flashlight , And flew out to the Coop! All seemed to be well ,but we canvassed the whole yard to be sure! Mr.Pepe, ran in circles then out to the back woods and then back again! He knew and smelled a varmit! I went back to the coop and counted everyone ! They were all there! So I calmed my little boy down and made him come back inside!
This morning , A Sad ,sad, sight in the barn! My little golden Seabright Rooster, laying on the ground with no head! something had bitten it right off and left the body!!! I was devastated! Im still sick on my stomach!
So now I have dogs and a night prowling varmit that Chomps off heads!!!! Arrrgh!!! Its enough to make a body want to give up! .......but... Im going out today and getting some supplies and Im going to fix the coop up where nothing will be able to get in the barn , anywhere, once I lock it up!!!! the problem is that I have so many different areas now housing different breeds that Im going to have a tough time getting it all done today!!! Im ready to sit up tonight with my good ole 4.10 , and if need be blow the #%@*//(#%#%.. out of some varmit!
sTrESsssssssssssed .....Head about to turn a 360!!!!!!
DADGUMMMIT!!! When it rains it pours. I have a varmit trap if you would like to use it. Not quiet sure how it works though. I got it over the weekend from a friends barn.
Only problem is you would have to come and get it...as I am grounded here for a while,,,cranked up the jeep this morning ,,and trans fluid pouring out of a hose,,,gotta hang around till a friend of mine can take me to the parts store.... You see when it rains ,it pours!

Awwwwww Man!!!!! Turkeybeard thanks for the loan of the trap I will certainly come and get it! So sorry about the Jeep!!!! How come , Ya think, we cant get real rain but the bad stuff always !!!
You have mail!!!!
I read somewhere about what kind of critter will bite the heads off chickens and leave the body. Foxes maybe?
I thought it was mink or weasel that did that.
Sorry, Eufaula. Hard times there.
Hard times for sure!!! Thanks every body, But we will get the critters! Good Ole Turkeybeard brought me a trap today( good friends are worth their weight in gold)! I intend to bait it tonight and set it! Hope fully tomorrow we will have pictures of a very mad critter!!!
So frustrating and sad. I hope you catch the critter, and the stray dog. Once they find a good place to get a free meal, they always come back for seconds.
Well We baited the trap and closed up[ the barn and and the coops really well! But nothing came or at least nothing in the trap! We didnt lose any one either! so Im not giving up! The critters probably noticed all the strange activity and are holding back until they think we are getting secure again! Im NOT giving up! Im gonna catch "em! Thats for sure!
I've baited with canned cat food. They can smell it a mile away, and they just can't resist it. It may take a couple of nights, but I bet it won't be long before you have them nabbed.
REally sorry for your lose Eufaula, was very upset to hear you have such a dog in the neighborhood truly wish you could shoot the owner - nothing too serious......... just a nice wake up call........kidding of course but sheesh some people really do need a good smack upside their head........good luck.
Well , this mornings update on the Varmit Trap!! Nada!!!! Nothing! not even tripped! Im throwing away the hamburger meat ,I used , and Im going to try Peggy's idea! Got to go buy some Really smelly Catfood!
Oh and by the way , heres a pic of old CockleLooLoo and the Buff O brothers, trying to Square off again! Boys, Always trying to prove how tough they are!!!!
Eu,
If cat food doesn't work try smelly dog caned food..
