I hand pollinated all my sunrise serenade. They were inside, so no bugs to do it for me.

Alot of the MG's will self pollinate without any animal pollinators...

if you watch the stamens as the flower begins to fade and crumple the stamens will almost always move towards the stigma and make physical contact with it...thereby self pollinating the flower...

There were some of my pink hige that needed help because they had incomplete parts and I had to hand pollinate. I did notice more pods making too. The very double flowers needed help and I also used pollen to promote the nice double shape as well.

Also if you have other purpureas in the area or if your neighbors have purpureas then the covering and hand pollinating will ensure you have true seeds. I`m going to experiment with little tiny cloth water resistant bags for these since they do not tie with yarn easily. Then you just check and see if the process of pollination has taken place and put the bag back on until late in the evening when you can remove it. You leave a yarn tied to the stem to ID the pod as being hand pollinated. (Please note: This is something I`m going to experiment with.)

It will be interesting to see how Gypsy Bride blooms appear. It wont be long.

We had storms last night, and with all the rain . . . my Gypsy Bride baby vines were under 3 inches of water when I went out this morning (good thing they are in a pot!). Husband will put back into big pot once they finish draining.
