I found this caterpiller munching on some Virginia Creeper leaves. He seemed to play dead after I captured him. Any ideas?

I believe it's an Eight Spotted Forester cat. Virginia Creeper is one of their host plant.
The moth is very pretty, looks like she has little orange leg warmers on.
