I want to plant Dolly Madison (red and pink, 30 - 36 inches tall) and Antartica (white, 3 feet tall) and possibly Easter Bonnet (yellow, 4 feet tall) asiatic lilies with phlox. I have Fanick's and Victoria phlox. My question is which do I plant with which phlox?
planting asiatic lilies and phlox
If these are tall garden phlox, it won't matter because the asiatics will be done long before the phlox bloom. If they are spring flowering, the yellow and white will probably compliment any color they might be. I'd find out the color before planting the red. Try Google to find more info if not in the plant files.
good point Beaker, I didn't think about the bloom times being different. Both kinds of phlox only get to be 3 feet tall according to PF. So now I'm trying to figure out how to make it look like the lilies and phlox are mixed in together, instead of one being behind the other. Also should I mix the types of phlox. The Victoria is a darker pink, but I think they are about the same size.
I'm not sure what you are trying to do. I wouldn't plant the phlox on top of the lilies. It may interfer with the lily's ability to put up a stem if the foliage from the phlox blocks out the sun. I have that problem in a location where I have hardy geraniums
I was going to try to plant the phlox in between the lilies. I have two Victoria phlox and one Fanick's phlox. Should I put it behind the lilies instead?
