Japanese morning glory flowering to early

Norfolk, VA

For some reason, my Japanese morning glory forms buds when they are just inches tall. Is there a way in which I can delay the blooming process?

Cut off the buds. I do that to my brugmansia until it gets to a certain size so it will spend its energy building a healthy root system, branches and leaves and not flowers.

Are they by any chance in a place where the light they are getting is fooling them into thinking it's time to flower?

First I had it in a greenhouse and then I took it home. Do you have any suggestions on the amount a light that they need in order to delay the flowering stage or do you suggest using a certain fertilizer?

Hey Tony,

You should share your 'formula'(!) for early MG flower induction as more people would like to get their MG's to flower 'too' early...(!)

The MG's that are short day plants will usually respond to less than 12-8 hours of light by flowering, but there is variation among species and different strains...

X gave you good advice by suggesting that you remove the buds, but the plant may continue to produce buds once flowering is initiated...

Nitrogen levels that are 'excessive' can often delay flowering, but I don't know if high Nitrogen will inhibit flowering once it is initiated...you can try and let us know...

Have fun...

Thank you for the suggestions.
