I don't even bother taking light colored flower pics at mid-day in strong sun. Morning and evening works best for me.
I agree with Critter about cropping but I still use macro.
This is a morning pic at about 8 inches, severely cropped.

Gem-- you have quite a collection of daffs! The pale ones are so pretty in the bouquet together!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks tabasco! They are quite an addiction, lol. Those pastels make me really happy.

Here is a collage of some of mine to date. More coming. Patti

bbrookrd-- Don't you love the collages for keeping records of what blooms each season? You have quite a few to keep track of, too!

here are some of mine to add to the pics. not all are opened up yet.

i have some others up to but i see i forgot to take pics of them so i will have to go back and take more, lol. ours were all late this year due to the late frosts and cold. some are just now still blooming and in bud. it is so weird most should have already bloomed.

The last ones to bloom for me are 'Felindre' http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/73411/ followed a week or two later by 'After All' http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/73412/ . 'Felindre' was pretty much done last week but 'After All' is still going. The daffodils here were a bit confused this year... the early ones bloomed really early, then we had some cold weather so the late ones were later than usual.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Silkiechick (I used to raise Silkies, they're so cute!), that 2nd one is particularly lovely. Do you have any idea what the name may be? Love that last one too!

Tom, Love 'Felindre', and must get some 'After All'- great to extend the daff season as much as possible :)

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

silkie--the one with the pale pink trumpet is so sweet!

I am so sad the daffodil season is coming to an end for us here. I just have 'baby moon' blooming among my emerging golden-edged hostas and they make a pretty sight.

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

the first one i think is mount hood. it is a pretty yellow and fades to white. i in herited them when we moved here, what a grand find!! i love silkie chickens, lol. i used to raise and show them with my kid's.

as for the pale pink, the one on the left is salome it is appricot and the one on the right is pink charm. i can't find my repletes anywhere i'm so upset. i planted lots of pinks but only a few have just now bloomed. i'm so bummed i was looking forward to them the most.

i'll get more pics posted as i can cause my ports are broke i have to put on cd to upload to my comp.
so glad you like them!!

Gorgeous scene Tammy! This is my first year with Hawera and they are wonderful. They're blooming at the old place and I did'nt get a pic. I love the viola with them in your garden, and your flowering trees are beautiful.

I'm slow getting these posted, but here are a few of mine. Don't know the name of this one....

The first one looks like pics of 'Intrigue' I've seen; does that ring a bell? Both are lovely!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Gemini_sage, I agree that it looks like the 'Intrigue' that I planted. Mine started out with less white but has 'whitened' up a bit since since first opening. Patti

Hi, again, everyone!

I just had to bump this thread up to remind everyone as they are out planting in the cold and wind what fun we had last spring sharing our beauteous bounty of daffs! Weren't they pretty?

And the photos have given me some good ideas for color combinations for my B & B Sale Order (that I am about to succumb to doing!)

Have fun planting! t.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

ROFLOL... I knew you would not be able to resist that sale, when it came down to it!

I got half my daffs planted today (the regular size ones... minis don't count!), so I'm feeling good about getting them in this week. I'm worrying less about getting in the "little bulbs" -- even a minor thaw should let me shove crocus bulbs into the ground if I don't get to them before temps drop.

But I am not ordering any more daffodils this year, no I am not. :-]

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

I put in 300 "Fragrant Rose" daffs from Van Engelen's sale this afternoon (it was 55 degrees).

Have a few hundred muscari to do, but I don't feel stressed about them, either...

I just went through B&B's site and determined that I need 50 Eremurus and that's it! Wish I could do tulips, but it's too discouraging with all the hungry critters...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

A good friend sent me a handful of 'Fragrant Rose' daffs to try! I'm putting them in a special nook of the front bed where they'll be easy to find and sniff next spring. I'm just about swooning imagining 300 of them in bloom... :-)

The next couple of days look like nice planting weather here.

If I get them all planted, then I can order more, right?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh woe is me. I only picked up a few extra bulbs this year. Then Ric very nicely enlarged my lamppost bed. I had planed it last spring but it wasn't looking like it would get done. Then is a bust of energy he got the bed in so I dug up all the bulbs in the old bed and spread them out. I know it will look sparse next spring. From this

To this. It's not quite finished we will be adding some trellises and doing so updating to the post it's self.

That's going to look much different in the spring. Lucky you!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

t, you are going to LOVE Fragrant Rose, especially 300 of them! They were the longest lasting daff in my garden last year. Oh, and a mass of 50 Eremerus! Ok, when those are in bloom, that's when I want to come visit! And what fun you can have cutting blooms to bring in.

HollyAnn, that new bed is very nice! If your ground isn't frozen, you could still pick up a few bulbs to fill it in with from the 50%off sale at Brent&Becky's, thats supposed to start tomorrow.

I'm expecting boxes from Brent&Becky's and VanEngelen today. Filled in with some daffs from VE; 10 Ara, 10 Lorikeet, 50 Fragrant Breeze, 100 February Gold, and 100 mixed. I've never planted a mix before, but have lots of areas around the lawn with groupings of mature trees where I'm hoping they'll look nice naturalized. I plan to pick up a few more from B&B tomorrow, and plant clumps of single varieties, with sprinklings of the mixed bulbs around them. This old house is painfully absent of naturalized daffs! It just seems like all old farm houses should have daffs scattered around the yard, lol.

critter, from no more daffs to maybe some more if the rest are planted, lol. I feel your pain!

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Gem! did you see that the B & B Half Off sale started This Morning!?

Wouldn't you know they fooled me when I called the other day!

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Good to hear your comments about the "Frangrant Rose" daffs, gem. I had searched the forums for that daff earlier and saw that you are about the only DGer who seems to grow/discuss them , so I ordered them based on your earlier posts! They were from Van Engelen and the bulbs were huge--mostly doubles... by the way, was I supposed to separate the doubles into singles? I didn't...oh, well...

I just ordered the B & B half off sale Eremurus and some Yellow Cheerfulness daffs that are supposed to bloom together.

Then thought some Allium Firmament might also bloom with the Eremurus and ordered them.... then ordered some allium nigrum...and that's it!!

Then I noticed somebody in Georgia posted they found boxes of 25 allium 'sensations' at Target on sale for $3. each, so I'm going to run out and check the garden centers today for the bottom of the bulb barrels... I love bulb sale shopping!

Again, so sorry about the miscue on the B & B sale....hope everyone gets their order in!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Tabasco, I got the heads up this morning and jumped in with both feet. Actually I tried to order most that can be dibbled in beds already done (ha, that is not exactly correct as they are never "done") .

But I couldn't resist ordering some narcissus, oops, just counted 14 more. But it is sort of fulfilling my civic duty as Nantucket has a big Daffodil Festival here every spring, though my garden and yard is not visible from the road. But I may blind the pilots flying over. We planted a mess of the along the road years ago that have multiplied brilliantly without any help from us.

I was tempted to order Allium - triquetrum, but didn't. Has any one grown this one? I am afraid it might be invasive like Allium tuberosum (garlic chive) which is beautiful and edible but it took over my garden and I have spent years getting rid of it. Patti

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Ah, they were on to you, and pulled a fast one! Oh, but I got my order in first thing this morning :)

Allium - triquetrum does look lovely, but I know nothing about it. Garlic chives seem to be the worst of the lot for invasiveness, though. I was set on ordering Firmament until the last minute, and decided to pair Allium - atropurpureum with A.'Silver Spring' instead. Hope that works out like it looks in my head, lol. I also picked up some A.nigrum, which I had at the old garden for one year and really liked. Filled in with some more fun varieties of snow crocus, Cream Beauty, Gipsy Girl, Jeanine, Prins Claus, and Romance. And finally am trying single late tulips Blushing Lady and Perestroyka, that I've heard raves about! Ordered 50 of each to sort of mass and intermingle together. Also ordered 50 Temples Favorite for another area; they're all sports of the same tulip, but I don't remember which one came first. A few more species tulips jumped into my cart too. Of course, couldn't resist adding a few daffs, well 75, lol. Accent, Precocious, Bridal Crown, Elizabeth Ann, Fruit Cup, Rip Van Winkle, and W.P.Milner are on the list. The ipheion, eranthus, camassia, dwarf iris, and anemone were too cheap to pass up! And, I had to try some Martagon lilies and couldn't pass up getting them 1/2 off. Good grief! now I'm stressing over all that digging, lol.

t, you were right not to separate your daffs. If the secondary bulbs are still attached to the mother bulb, they produce a bloom. I'm not sure if they will if separated.

Happy sale shopping all!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Gemini_sage, now you tell me

Quoting:
Blushing Lady and Perestroyka, that I've heard raves about!
Is it worth a revisit? My DH is apoplectic at this new binge. Well, maybe just a peek. Patti

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

bb--yes, it is certainly your civic duty to put in the daffs and companion bulbs, so you have my permission to buy some more! Sounds like a wonderful town festival--very cheery, and beautiful, too, I bet!

Gem--love to read thru your shopping list! What a haul! Can not wait for the photos next spring and my visit down there! Get the mint juleps ready!

Fun, fun. Now I have to go out and plant some more. It's in the 50s and sunny here. Just a lovely day for laying out the bulb garden! (to heck with the Xmas decorations!)

t.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Well....I can't speak from personal experience on them yet, but other members have loved them, and B&B has the little heart symbol by all of them (including Hocus Pocus, which I regretfully had to mark off). I've found I typically agree with B&B when they mark something as a personal favorite. I'm trying something different (for me) this year by massing some tulips in an area that will be mowed after the leaves dry. I'm going to go ahead and fertilize, but the spot will be dry from nearby trees in summer. Hoping this will provide conditions that stimulate good rebloom.

Imagine if we were all neighbors! It would be scary, lol.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Hello, I have planted allium triquetrum, and I would label them as definitely abundantly self seeding, but they are fairly easy to pull up from the places they are not wanted. Just watch where you toss the discards, as they'll root right there. I put them in a location that I don't mind if they take over a little, and separated from the other areas of my garden. They are fighting it out with the lambs ear, which also plants itself freely. I might regret them both in a few years, but I do love the fuzzy leaf of the latter and the little white bell flowers of the former.
I have been trying to make up my mind over a Brent and Becky order from their sale, but keep getting cold feet over the shipping to the west coast (high enough, and then with an unknown additional 3 day select fee). I didn't know what the little heart mark meant, but now I do. Thanks. Holly (Seattle area)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Holly, thanks for sharing your experience with allium triquetrum. I don't mind some aggressive multipliers, as long as I know before hand and place them accordingly. Its those times when I stick something like that in the richest, frothiest soil I've got and it goes nuts that are a real pain.
