Hi Ladies,
My name is Robyn and I am the oldest daughter of your friend Diane. She asked me to please e-mail you and tell you what is up with her. As you know she was to go into the hospital last Friday for removal of a piece of cartilage pressing against her spinal cord. When she arrived they discovered that her potassium level was very high. So they admitted her and gave medications to bring that level down to normal range. Her surgeon decided it would be safe to do the surgery on Saturday. But when they opened her up he found that the Dura (the column of fluid around the spinal cord) had ruptured and was leaking cerebral-spinal fluid. He spent the next three hours trying to stitch the dura closed with an artificial membrane. It just kept ripping and leaking. Her vital signs began to fail and he had to hurry with something. So he glued the membrane shut, put in a drain and hoped for the best. Well by Saturday night he knew that had not worked and he would have to go back in on Sunday. Sunday's surgery took 41/2 hours and he placed 40 mini clips onto the area (1/2 to 1 inch area). That has worked and there is no further leakage. His intention is to let her recover for 1-2 weeks in the neurosurgical ICU and then go back in after the cartilage that is causing some dangerous problems to her spinal cord. He said she will be hospitalized "for a very long time".
She is alert and her pain level is being controlled. The worst part is that she has lost all feeling and movement in her legs. Her only movement is a slight flutter of her left foot. Whether that continues is up to the Lord for we know He is in control of all!

OH, how awful!!! Good thoughts going to gardengram. I hope she Bingo's! She would like that. Maybe we could round robin a get well card for everyone here to sign then mail it to her with all signatures.

do you all think it is appropriate for me to post her daughter's email address here??? Since Diane is alert mentally, don't you think she would also love it if her daughter gave her the personal emails to her??? You all make the decision as to what is best......

Gee Gail, I don't know...maybe if someone wants it you could dmail it to us. I would love to have it, to pass on well wishes....perhaps you should ask Robyn if she would mind either way...or if she would rather give us an address or maybe Diane's email...what do you think about that?
