Dwarf Gardenias (radicans)

I have three of these dwarf Gardenias in a pot. I put them in the pot, planning to bring them in over the winter, but forgot to. They survived, even the surprise freeze a couple weeks ago, so now I'd like to plant them in the ground in a permanent home. I've read that they don't like to have their roots disturbed. Could I remove the whole kit and kaboodle from the pot and set it right in the ground without shocking them too much? Ideally, I'd like to separate them and space them out a bit, but not if it will cause them harm. Here's a picture.
Thanks!

I've never had problems transplanting gardenias. I've never treated them any different than anything else, so I've not been especially careful about the roots.

Hey there RainGazer, we just returned from SE TN......

Regarding your Gardenias, the plants I've seen down your way always come in a pot, so somebody at sometime has to remove them to plant them. As far as separating them, you might try rinsing off all the soil and see if you can decipher where one plant's roots are and where the other plants are and gently tease them apart. If they seem to be too intertwined, then it's probably best to just plant them all in one hole. Good luck!
