Nyssa Sylvatica 'Autumn Cascade'

Lombard, IL(Zone 5b)

Does anybody have one of these. I just got mine yesterday from Gossler and am very happy with it, I just haven't seen any pics of decent sized ones. I need to pick and stake a leader I am assuming. I'll post a pic tonight to see what people think as it seems like I might need to stake 2 leaders (or prune) if I wanted an upright form. Does anybody know what this would look like if I didn't stake it? It looks pretty pendulous now as a 1 gal.

This is the best pic I could drum up on the Internet

Willis,

Can't answer your question but that is a seriously cool-looking plant!

Here are the pics of it. You can see the graft has 2 side branches where I can either train two leaders or snip, or have one up and one prostrate. I think I might opt for the 2 leaders with a wishbone shape.

A close up of the graft.

That pic from gardenworldonline gives me something to look forward to.

I have one of these and had to decide how to shape it as it had several low side branches. I got a little nuts and severely pruned everything off but one and made it a central leader. It followed my direction and grew like crazy. I have staked mine up to 4 feet now and will probably take it a bit higher. I have read that if left unstaked it will crawl on the ground. It has awesome fall color.

I might just follow your lead. At least it was cheap. That is the mantra I will chant as I hack away at the poor little guy.
