Midnight Velvet MG

How long has this type of MG been around?

Ron, I saw your comment in the PF with regards to Midnight Velvet possibly being renamed for marketing strategies. Which other MG do you feel that it ultimately resembles or would be the same as?

I got a pack of seeds only marked Midnight Morning Glories but maybe it really should be Midnight Velvet. I found them in an unpacked craft box that has followed me through three moves over the past 6 years. I would've got them from an elderly lady back in 1998 but never planted any of them until now. They've now sprouted, which really blew my mind as I sure never stored them properly.

Tks,
Erynne

Do you have a PIc of the PKG?

Paul, the seeds came in a packet that was handmade by the lady; not a commercial seed packet. Sorry, I should've mentioned that. She was an avid gardener and was always passing out plants and seeds to everyone on the street. It's just too bad I didn't pay more attention to her at the time but I was a young mother with one on the way & one in tow.

Erynne - The MIdnight looks the closest to a Granpa Ott's to me...although there isn't alot of fuchia in or around the throat in the photo of the Midnight...

I had posted a thread about the very similar looking relatively dark bluish-puple Ipomoea purpureas here

Hope that helps...

That's a very informative thread and it sure did help. I did a DG search on Midnight Velvet before and that thread never came up for me at the time.

Seeing all of these darker MGs, even with all their slight variances, I probably won't need to have them all as they don't really pass the 10 ft rule for me.

Many Thanks,
Erynne
