Internet etiquette is needed here

Houston, TX

Here are some things about Etiquette when you are online:

Do unto others, as you'd have others do unto you. Try to be polite and courteous especially if you have kids. Remember that you're not communicating with a computer screen, but with a human being who has thoughts and feelings just like you. So, always think of the person on the receiving end of your messages.

Remember that the written word is hard to interpret. When you speak to someone, that person can hear the tone of your voice. If they can see you, they can take visual clues from your face and body to better understand your meaning. All of this is lost in text, and sometimes responses can come across as mean or rude, even when you did not intend them this way. This is the reason some people use emoticons (visual clues) in their e-mails, it saves a lot of confusion.

Don't break any laws. When you're on the net, follow the same rules of behavior that you would in real life. Remember, if it is against the law in the real world, it is against the law in cyberspace so be honest in your posting. Don't flame. Do not send rude or offensive e-mails or postings. It's bad manners and can get seriously out of hand.

Be brief whenever possible. No one wants to read through a lot of unnecessary information. If you are replying to an e-mail or post, try editing out unimportant information and anything that is repeated. Stick to the topic of the discussion group. (very important)

Make a good impression. Remember that the written word is the only way you can represent yourself online, so spelling and grammar count. If you are going to be writing a large amount of text for other people to see, make sure you break it up using paragraphs, it will make it easier on the eye for those that will read it.

Be patient with newcomers. Once you have become an Internet expert, it is easy to forget that you started out as a newbie too. Learning the rules of cyberspace is much like learning a new language; it takes practice, and includes making mistakes. So if you come across someone else's mistakes on the net, don't put them down, just politely point them in the right direction for guidance.

I joined this forum in January and this guide is very much needed here. TTYL

We all need this reminder every now and then. I'm happy when newbies ask questions because they usually ask the question that I'm afraid to ask. So much of what is on this board is way over my head about mgs. I'm trying to absorb it all though. :)

Maybe someone should add that some people come across as rude or arrogant but thats just there way of typing. So, on forums people shouldn't read into things too much, and be taking offence at what is after all only text!
If you come round my house and throw stones at the windows i'll take offence, but say what ever you like to me on here i won't read into it any further.

I personally have had posts removed for pulling someones leg. I have also had posts removed for typing words that have a stronger meaning in the usa, rules are rules its true but don't take offence to easily.

Thanks for reminding the group about ettiquette! We value your contribution to this forum, Dee. Whenever I'm on the internet I have to remind myself to "assume the best intention" when reading other people's postings. It is very hard to interpret what others mean without the context of tone and body language.

I think people should write and talk directly to the person they have a problem with. Whenever a person makes a mistake and it was in misunderstanding or for a moment they may have temporarily been stressed or upset then they need a chance to get forgiveness and to do better. Making wrongs right is the way to go whenever possible.

There are many things that need to be left behind and forgotten. I teach my dogs to "This way" which means to quit what you are doing and move my way and go the way I`m going then "heel" means to go right with me. This morning giving my dogs the command "This way " saved some baby swan`s lives. My bird dogs would have loved to have fetched those birds for me and it would have hurt them. I said," This way!" to direct them away from the baby birds and back to me. I harness my dogs power with discipline. We should do the same for ourselves.

This is a completely "in general" expression of ideas. I have no problems with anyone here, complaints or anything like that but did want to contribute some ideas to help and never to hurt.

MGJapan..... what are you talking about? lol

Did you right this post out of guilt or what exactly? hehe

I am however please you decided to apologise to Phicks.... The attack on his honour was a little over the top. He is a very kind and sharing guy who as you can see in this thread made no attempt to provoke you or retaliate at all.

Just so everyone can make there own judgements read the tenten thread here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/713345/

Now hopefully we can all learn from that little accident and get along well.

Moving forward i hope to leave this alone now.

I re read the thread. The fact that Kikyosaki Ten Ten is a nil and Gypsy Bride is a purpurea makes it impossible for these two to be sisters.

Yes, some etiquet is needed here. Phicks said yesterday, apology accepted, now lets put it behind us. That should have been the complete end to it.
