Ten Ten Saki

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

This is a seed from Japan its was sold to me as a sister Mg of Gypsy Bride i lost the tag so have no idea what the middle name is its about the slowest MG i have ever growed its close to 3 mnts old and just geting a vine

The Ten Ten JMG that Komeri was marketing was the Q751 JMG I grew last year, Paul, the one that had the pale corolla with blood red specks on it. It grew slowly and made a short vine for me too. The flower nodes were close together, nice and unusual plant!

I need to jump in here and say that Komeri has never sold anything as a sister Mg of Gypsy Bride. If he purchased the seeds from Japan it was not from Komeri. I want to set the record straight on that.

I've seen a difference in growing these the past 2 years. One has fat variegated leaves and the other has long narrow non variegated leaves. I'm growning these now and the seeds are from 2 different sources and non of them were sold as Q751.

This is my 3rd year growing these and I hope to have pictures later to validate my statement. Please be careful when you reference (Komeri) or other people without knowing the facts.

Paul, your plant looks a lot like the creepers that have the dwarf gene. These plants have short internodes and many have the long dragonfly leaf like yours. That is a very interesting plant. I'm anxious to see how it blooms.

i just checked my records i bought theam from Komeri

Houston, TX

OK you purchased the seeds from Komeri. Cool. Now where did you get this statement from?

You must have made it up because I know for a fact they never stated any such or made any statement.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

I don't make anything up and I'm not going to get into it with you. That is what it said on the description on EBAY. Paul

Houston, TX

What`s the ebay number? It`s out in the open let everyone see. Because I know it`s not in the description and I I want to set the record straight. If you are going to post please post the truth.

First of all I did not say anything negative about this MG except that it is a slow grower so don't know why you are getting all bent out of shape

They were won in October here is the number

320040352836 Japanese Morning Glory - Kikyosaki Tenten 1 $10.49 USD $10.49 USD

Houston, TX

Yo, I"m not bent out of shape. I'm just pointing out the fact that I know that the seed from Japan was not sold to you as a sister Mg of Gypsy Bride from Komeri. I know that statement is very much untrue. That's all I was pointing out. I just like the truth.

i grew something very similar last season it was a kikiosaki type..it never grew very much...

My concern is the following statement...

Many of you have purchased ten-ten from Komeri and you know they made no such statement in the description as being a sister Mg of Gypsy Bride. That`s absurd.

I purchased ten-ten from Komeri and I don't remember anything about it being called a sister to Gypsy Bride. The ten-ten I bought is not even a shredded bloom (from the photo representing it). Maybe Paul saw a different auction than mine...but mine didn't say that.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

This is the photo (for identification purposed only, I don't know who "owns" it) of the seeds I purchased. Let's turn this unfortunate exchange into something positive by making it a learning experience. Does anybody know exactly what "ten ten" means? Are there other MG's named "ten ten" and are there various bloom shapes associated with the label.

Wow, that looks to be a beauty. Have you started your seeds yet Beth?

I'm waiting for warmer weather to start these, because I only have 3 seeds. I sure don't want to mess up with them!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I have one of those and it appears to be normal. I started another seed a few weeks ago. I had to bring it inside during the cold weather and now it is growing happily outside. So far it appears much like one of the picotees with the smoother leaves. Aren`t some of these vines supposed to be smaller and the flowers are smaller like a picotee? The picture of the Kikyasaki Ten Ten is beautiful. I saw no reference to Gypsy Bride when I bought my Kikyasaki ten ten seeds.

The other seeds I have with Kikyosaki in the name were pictured growing in a hanging basket, so I'm thinking that they are the smaller type MG.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Is is it kikyasaki or kikyosaki? I see it spelled both ways.

Here it is kikyasaki
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3401386

And I see it spelled kikyosaki. I was spelling it as kikyosaki as well. But I still do not know for sure how to spell it right.

I have seen it spelled both ways as well. I don't have a clue which is the right one.

Paul,

I would like to offer my apology if I came on antagonistic in responding to your post.
It was not my intent and I just want the facts to be correct.

Also I apologize to this forum if I seem uncharacteristic in my quotes.

Dee,

Apology accepted.....let's start over new.

Beth,

Ten-Ten is a Japanese word that describes the red spots or splashes in the flower. Kikyosaki ten-ten is just like the Kikyosaki (picotee type) but the ten-ten is refering to the spots or splashes. I know it`s documented as Q751 in kyushu website but has not been sold or auctioned as such in Japan.

dee

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

The Kikyo term refers to the the blossum being shaped like a platycodon bellflower...and these are not all necessarilly picotee...

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Great information. Thanks so much! Karen

Clatskanie, OR(Zone 9b)

I remember them too. When they first went up on the auction, Komeri wanted in excess of $15 per seed. I'd accept an appology for the gouging anytime.Frank

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I recall the seeds were a bit expensive, but no one put a gun to my head to make me pay the price. They were unusual and interesting and I was glad to find a source where they were available...and that is the principle of capitalism under which we live (for better or worse)!.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Gotta feed the addiction at all cost!! LOL☺

Melbourne, FL

It's always a shame when words get taken wrong in print....it has happened to all of us. Regardless, that is one BEAUTIFUL flower!

Clatskanie, OR(Zone 9b)

That splattered flower is only half the package. It is a runt of a morningglory. Those are highly desired, Picks, I would like to be the first one on the list to buy or trade with. Obviously Komeri is not in anyway connected to this plant. So Phicks, this dwarf like plant is in your court. Put me on the list. Frank
