All in one morning

Awww...good birdies. The good thing about them sitting together like that is it usually lasts for enough time to get a good look at them.

Lawrenceville, GA

Dang it! I'd settle for just ONE hummingbird at my feeders. Maybe this weekend.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Finally got of pic of this one. Don't mind the fancy bird feeder...goes to show they don't care ! The black-headed grosbeak. I got two pictures one is the male and the other the female..but I don't know which is which.

They're both males! (while the two previous [16 Apr pic] are both females)

Here's the male & female together. Right after that I caught one drinking the oriole's sugar water and seemed to be enjoying it.

You're too quick for me Resin...it takes my computer awhile to post pictures. Last year at this time I saw a rose-breasted grosbeak in my yard...hoping he comes back this year. They are rare to this area.

Beautiful pics better!

Who said hummers fight ?

Sorry, justme, nothing else to do in this town except watch birds...luckily this time of year there are plenty.

Lawrenceville, GA

Well go take pictures of those ugly owl babies of yours and REALLY rub it in!

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Be right back....

Phoenix, AZ

Wow!! Just look at ALL those hummers!!

Lawrenceville, GA

Don't encourage her.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Only got two of the ugly old owls...other one must be taking a nap.

Unreal. You really went and took a picture of those fuzzy, bug-eyed baby ows! LOL!
I see the tip of the other little bugger's ear there to the right.
I'm cracking up at how they look right at you like they know they're supposed to pose. And they certainly aren't going to be accused of having their picture taken with their eyes closed!

You're completely cracked.
Really impress me and get those owls to eat out of your hands!
Nevermind... you might actually do it and post a picture of it.

Marlton, NJ

better, that pic of the babies is outstanding!!

In that last hummer pic the one on the right is a Costas or Allens?

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Can't get the owls to eat out of my hands...momma owl sits in the nearby tree. Use to do some night owl fishing. I'd put a fake, furry squirrel on fishing string and pull it thru the grass...the big owls use to chase it.
Gotta try getting the hummers to eat out of my hand again with a smaller container of water...seen it done before, so I know it works.

Wow. California really AIN'T what it's cracked up to be is it?!?!?!

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

OMG: It worked...just look at this ! I have two pictures to share so be patient...my computer is sloooow when it comes to posting pics !

Sore loser (lol) just going out to put up more feeders ?

Marlton, NJ

Heeheehee :-)

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Pell: To get back to your question of which ones they are...don't know. I have noticed three different ones but haven't looked them up yet.

:::THUD::: Did you all see my jaw just drop? WOWOWOWOWOW I'm impressed already! Man oh Man oh Man what cool shots. Tell me YOU didn't take the photos as well as have a hummer eating out of your hand. If you did, I am doubly impressed!!!

Great photos and what a cool experience that must have been. I've never seen so many at one time like that, other than here on Dave's in photos. You must have the patience of Job!

Yes, I had to take the picture...no one else around here ! Really it took about two minutes. First you have to have hummers coming to your feeder, which seems to be the hard part for most people. Then take all the feeders away in your area. Stand there with the cap of sugar water in your hand..and they will come to you ! Hummers are more afraid of other birds than they are people. I thought I would have to wait a long time, but didn't. They came right to me.

BB, you're too much with that camera! You'll have everybody on DG over here pretty soon. What a treat these pictures are.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Kaperc, thanks ! Here's another shot. The cap I used is so small I could only get two hummers at a time so tomorrow I'm going to use a peanut butter jar lid. (I'm giving up all my secrets).

How adorable! Congratulations better!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Better, those photos are so wonderful they bring tears to my eyes!!!! And I've never seen that many at one feeder (and so relaxed!) at a time, let alone sitting there quietly looking at each other.

Keep posting - we can't get enough . . . well, most of us can't (lol!!).

Phoenix, AZ

Ok Better, what exactly are you feeding them in that little cap to get them to sit on your hand?? And as others have said, please keep sharing your pics & secrets!!!

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Trllium, it's just sugar water in the cap, but my ratio is sugar and then add just enough water (bottled water) to make it like syrup. My neighbor has two feeders out but doesn't get that many hummers so maybe it makes a difference. I'm going out in awhile to try the peanut butter lid, see if I can get more. The seems to be one odd-ball hummer causing commotion out there..upseting all of them. From what I can tell it might be a Rufous, it's a strange color of orange. I'll see if I can get a pic of him.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Here's a few pics..the lid didn't make much of a difference as far as how many I got to come to it. In fact, if I use the cap (much smaller) they would sit on my hand. If I used the lid, they would sit on that. Guess I'll go back to the cap.

Here's the one doing all the fighting. Not too good of a pic but maybe someone will know what kind it is...not a calm one like the others.
