This guy was under a board in the garden the other day mid April in Maryland. Would this be a cutworm? (Doubt anyone can ID the species from this of course.)

There are a bunch of fat, green, bristled, striped caterpillars in that Family Plusiinae.... if you keep clicking on the word 'Plusiinae' the site will page through images

edit: oops...Plusiinae is a Subfamily, Noctuidae is the Family

It sort of looks like this Angle Shade. It was probably looking for a place to pupate, when you found it.

Well, this bit of bug biology is new to me. I was surprised to see a full grown looking cat in early spring.
