are watermaids with only felt sufficient for Av's???

(Zone 1)

Thanks for that info RobinEggs. When I had Ace order it for me, no I didn't get any free 8oz bottles ... just the case of 6 qts. The reason I didn't order direct from Eleanor's is because she charged so much more for shipping than Ace did ... and it came from the same place in California.

Thanks for the link to Charleys ... I haven't visited that website in awhile! I need to check it out!

Your welcome ! I think Charlies for one gallon and $8.95 shipping is not bad.
Though I wonder why the big shipping difference.
Eleanor did not use to charge as much for shipping ?
Eleanor charges less for the food so are they making money on the shipping ?
To buy 4 gallons of food from Charlies is $99.80 and shipping is only $14.95. total $114.75 I think it came Fed-Ex by Charlies last time.
Eleanor's 4 gallons $68.00 but shipping $ 46.24 WOW that's too high total $ 114.24
So with Eleanor's shipping so high you save nothing.
I wonder what size bottles Gail bought how many ?? It seems like she paid a lot of $$$.
I think if I was going to order gallons I'd just order from Charlies even though it's more per gallon shipping is less I've ordered from them often and always had good customer service...
Our Ace Hardware won't order it .

Lin here is another good link I fount on the thread Critter linked us to above.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/584273/
It has special trays, grids, for wicking.
I don't do either , I don't use mats either , Critter would these be the grates and trays people would also use with the mats ?

I think so, yes. I was thinking of doing grates with the mats on top, but I ended up just cutting the matting and putting it into the bottom of my trays. When I water, I add enough to the trays to have the matting good and wet when the pots are done taking up water (I just don't leave them sitting in water, maybe 1/16 inch but not more than that)... that way, the plants get extra moisture and humidity from the mats but aren't watered continuously the way they are when they are wicked into a reservoir (some cultivars seem to do better for me with a system that provides more constant watering and others seem to prefer drying out a bit at the end of each week).

sorry posted wrong thread
