First, I must say I am mad on Arisaemas and have been slowly collecting.
New this year I have A speciosum, a mature bulb and seeds which have germinated. The bulb has a shoot through by about 3".
Also A nepenthoides, it has a beautiful patterned stem already a few inches tall.
A triphyllum received from a friend, and another which has already got a spathe and it wasn't certain which it was.
I have A ciliatum var. liubaense which flowered for the first time last year, I bought 2 tiny bulbs barely 1/4" across of which one rotted, the other took 5 years to flower. It has made several small bulbs as it is stoloniferous.
A fargesii, which I have had I think 3 years and it only really started to grow properly last year. It has made a couple of offsets, still waiting for it to flower.
A griffithii var. Pradhanii is just showing, I've had it for just over a year, it produced one good leaf last year and almost made a spathe. It's similar to but larger than A griffithii which I also had in the ground for 2 years before it showed, it grew 2 leaves for 2 years and disappeared for good! I now grow them all in pots in the greenhouse, only when I have any spare will I try them in the ground.
A consanguineum, which I have had for around 6 years and it has flowered the last 3 years.
I tried a mix of seed 3 years ago, a few came up and promptly wilted as I germinated them in the propogator re instructions to the temperature. I placed the pot in the greenhouse and later in the summer one more grew, which is now a nice, fat little bulb but still small. It had an almost proper leaf last year, which looked like A fargesii.
Some others I got recently are 3 small first cycle bulbs of A sikkokianum, which I started inside and they all have one leaf. I also got some seeds of the variegated leaf one free with them, waiting for germination.
I tried A tortuosum, it was a huge bulb and struggled to grow in the first year 05, but last year it had a reasonable leaf with a small baby leaf so I was hopeful. This spring I looked and there was nothing there, not even a gooey mess!
I would like to hear what others are growing, and your experiences with them.
The tall one in the front is A nepenthoides, behind to the right is A speciosum, the small one to the left is the uncertain bulb which looks to be what it is supposed to be, A triphyllum.
Arisaema season, who has any showing?
Oh my! you have indeed gone mad for Arisaemas! And what a great collection already!
I saw the first rocket-like sprout from an A.triphyllum in the garden just a couple of days ago, and typically see them sprout at intervals throughout the spring. I find them so odd, how they will bloom quite small, but keep forming a larger plant every year. I have one in the garden that reaches nearly 3' tall, surrounded by 6-8"tall blooming size babies. So glad to see yours is so happy! Now, hoping the other gives you a green bloom; both the green and maroon are beautiful.
Can't wait to see and compare pics!
I love A.sikokianum, but have been too cheap to buy any. The price has gone up a lot, now I wish I gotten one a couple of years ago!

A.candidissimum is another I really like:

Plant Delights offers 2 pages of selections to drool over:

A sikokianum has always been expensive here, and I won't pay the price either! I got mine from an ebay seller in Italy who grows them, they are only small but I will have to wait! I paid £5 with postage and the free seeds which would have cost me that if I could get them. He offered 5 seeds but I got 10 (hope they grow), it wasn't picked up on by many so I was lucky!
rareplants here have some for sale now but it is late, and they haven't knocked much off the price but A sikolkianum is £10.50, it was much cheaper this year at around £12.50, funny isn't it we want so much for our money. A kiushianum was a better price too and that is one I really want! It's not offered now but come autumn.......can't do everything at once!

I had already ordered A thunbergii ssp urashima from jacquesamand but they list what they don't have, it was marked as available in spring on the invoice. I emailed about a month ago to ask if I would pay extra postage, and asked if they did have it for this spring and would I have to reorder. They didn't mention if they had it, said I wouldn't pay more postage, but I still haven't got one! Now I don't know if it's still on order or if I have to reorder. I wish they would tell me!

There is a lot more species being offered now, to tempt us poor weak souls!
There is another place here that has a good list of all sorts of interesting plants, a smaller grower and they are already growing in pots, adhocplants. They have got A kiushianum at a good price, not sure if flowering size, if I ordered from them it would be very expensive to me because they have so many unusual plants and I couldn't help myself! Look at their Fritillarias too,

Then there is bertramsblooms who I have bought some good bulbs from on ebay, he now has an online shop. I see he has some new ones listed too that are not in stock.

Another of the A triphyllum has pushed up well now so I will get to see it soon, they do flower quickly once they start. It's strange they flower from small plants as well, can't wait to see them get big!
Hi Linda, it looks like a Dracunculus vulgaris!
Look at my other thread,
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/707903/
When that spathe opens you will get a surprise!
I got some Arums in the autumn too, I started them in pots and have recently put them in the ground. A. creticum has a spathe too!
I'll certainly keep an eye on it, thanks for the id
I have A triphylla coming up and blooming and some seedling form the larger plants here and there. Unfortunately, the last freeze got my really dark one, that looks just like yours wallaby. The rest are mostly the solid green ones.
And I am right there with you and gemini: I have yearned for A. candidissimum, but the price keeps me away. And of course I'd prefer to start with two so I can get some seeds going..............
I have a few A. dracontium coming up, mostly seedlings, but one is coming up that, judging by the size, is either a scape or a nice-sized stem.
I'll try to get pix tomorrow.
R.
A dracontium does OK in the ground where you are?
I should be able to grow A. triphyllum in the ground, but I don't want to risk them yet!
That dark Jack was unbelievably quick from coming up to flowering.
I have this thing about seeds too, but they take years to flower, I sometimes wonder about myself!
Yes both are very hardy, both into Canada, with zero protection as they're natives.
The dark Jack has always been very small. Is that normal or has my tuber just never grown very much? They're fairly dry in summer and seem to like that when they've gone dormant.
Here's the potted dracs, a couple young ones and the larger sprout.
R.
That looks like it could be a flowering spike, or just a larger plant!
The triphyllums according to Neal do grow taller, see above what he said about his. Whether the dark ones behave differently I don't know. This is my first with these.
The Arisaema nepenthoides is amazing! There is a leaf bursting out at the top, with a yellow stem blotched with reddish brown, the leaves are dark brown!
At the top it looks like there may be a spathe emerging, the colours are so rich. I can't wait to see it fully open! This certainly beats all the pics I have seen!
It's much better in person....
W. O. W.
That is exotically ecstatically amazingly perversely gorgeous!!!!
yes it is! They are quite cheap too!!!!!!!!
Make a wish and go for it!!!!!!
(It has a gnarly allure too, BTW.)
Found this on A. nepenthoides lore: http://www.paghat.com/arisaemanepenthoides.html

A.nepenthoides is wonderfully weird! I love "wizard's finger", perfect description! I have a large 'rocket' emerging I noticed today of A.triphyllum. I just realized I need to dig it up and take it with me!
Excellent shot!
OOoooooohhh, it looks more animal than plant!
AWESOME, wallaby1 !!
Those markings on the stems, the color on the foliage, plus that wicked flower starting to open is wonderful is just not to be believed.
What a wonderful species!
"Day of the Triffids"?
Well that would be useful raydio if it was a triffid, I need to fight off those little green peas!
Awesome indeed! Notice how the yellow colour and blotching continues up the veins on the reverse of the leaves?
Midribs of leaves I should have said, there are white veins radiating out to the edges!
