Shrubs

Harker Heights, TX(Zone 8b)

I would like to say "hello." I'm a new member and very happy
that i found this place and i like what i see.
I also have a question. Looking for shrubs for a sidewalk.
Height not more then 3 feet.
Going to check out my local nurserie this weekend.
What should i be looking for???
Thanks.

Is the area sunny or shady? Do you want something that's evergreen or are deciduous shrubs OK? Do you want flowers or doesn't that matter?

Atmore, AL(Zone 8b)

Dwarf Yaupon Holly comes to mind http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/88371/index.html or maybe Indian Hawthorn, http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/51731/index.html some varieties stay smaller than others.

It's very hot and sunny in the afternoon.
And yes, evergreen.
Flowers okay if not is okay too.

Thanks

What about Natal Plum. It does have thorns though.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm not sure that natal plum will be hardy in zone 8. It doesn't like frost too much, I think it's really only hardy in zone 9/10. If you have a sheltered area it might be OK, but out in the open I'm not sure if it'll make it--I'd test one out first before you plant a bunch along your sidewalk.

Here are a couple others to consider:
Abelia x grandiflora 'Compacta' (check with someone from your area about whether this one would put up with the heat--Plant Files says full sun but it may need part shade in your area) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/59783/index.html
Leucophyllum frutescens (this one should be fine with heat) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54689/index.html
