flowers in the ditch

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Here are some wild flowers. I wondered if they were bindweed or related to morning glories. The leaves look different from bindweed I have seen and they are not vines but growing in shrubby patches.

It might be oenothera speciosa, I've seen them here around the freeway intersections and had some in CA, they spread fast with lots of water..

They are not a bindweed. They could be a mallow but I'm not sure.

oops...not a morning glory.

Thanks. You got me on the right track. It is Showy Evening Primrose (Oenothera speciosa)

This one is a meadow flower commonly growing where I saw it...the side of the road and it does spread but it is good for rock gardens and bare spots where people have a problem getting anything at all to grow.

They also do great in those long window containers.. they were sold in one gallon pots at Lowes in CA. I really like them too.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL IMAGES, I just wish they could grow in my ditch too.
The only thing that can grow in my ditch is something that can swim at 60 miles an hour. Save seeds.....................Frank

Ok. I`ll keep an eye on them.

Gardener2005, your pic looks like a Mexican Evening Primrose. Do you think so? See the link below.

Sorry, something happened to that link, certainly isn't the one I saw.
The next time around it worked. Go figure. I copied and pasted and it worked.
Seems the whole address needs to go in. Afterthe .com put /images?q=Mexican eveningprimrose.
edited to correct problem

It is (Oenothera speciosa) and Mexican evening primrose could be another name for it.

These evening primrose, (i think) grow wild here in Texas. They are all over the place in the spring of the year. I saw some for sale at a nursery the other day and had to laugh. They're free for the digging for miles around and these people were selling them. lol
