Wow. The only rooster experience I have is with the white leghorn I had with my chickens I had a few years ago. He never attacked anybody. We really enjoyed watching him strut around the yard. His name was Foghorn, of course. LOL
Maybe he was gentler because we handled them all a lot when they were chicks?
They're here!
Years ago I killed my favorite rooster because it attacked my my son who was about 3 yrs old at the time. I was washing dishes at the sink and watching him at the swing set. It was fall and I had dressed him up in his red parka with the hood tied up on his head. All of the sudden the rooster comes flying at him talons first and knocks him right to the ground. It then proceeded to jump up and down on him flailing his head. Thankfully for my son he fell on his face when the rooster knocked him over. I shudder to think what his face and eyes would have been like after that stomping if he'd been face up.
I whipped outside snatched up my hatchet (it was fall and I'd already culled some of the flock out for freezer camp) and boom that rooster was history. He was gorgeous and big black and white striped. I never knew what he was had just picked him up at the feedstore cuz he was pretty. If it hadn't been for the attack he'd have never met the hatchet, like I said he was my favorite.
When I said I was getting chickens again my son said mom don't you remember the rooster...lol, he's 14 yrs old now and taller than me. I told him don't worry mom will protect you....lol, he just rolled his eyes and shook his head.
