CLOSED: This is the work/nest of some insect??

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

On my Pelargonium stem/plant, I found this nest (?) made of some light plant material using small pieces. Can anyone tell which insect might have done this?

My first guess is a wasp. I have these little tiny wasps that make nests or hives out of bits of grass in my windows every year that look like that. Or it might be a larva of some kind pupating...

Shall I try to open the nest? If I do so, am I damaging it?

I expect it would harm whatever is inside. Can you put it in a cage to see it when it comes out?
Maybe it's already empty. ?

I'll tie a plastic cover where it is.

i seen certain kinds of bagworms which look like that too. it's not the typical "bagworm" look, but after opening one up, it was.

Who carries those little sticks to make the nest?

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

This is the caterpillar of one of the bagworms or case-moths. The adult male will become a moth, but for a lot of species the female is wingless and stays in her bag or case for her whole life. The family is the Psychidae and there are a lot of species and very difficult to identify as one usually only sees them in their bag/case.

It's probably a "Potter Wasp":

Sinks Grove, WV

Because of the location and shape, I suspect that this more likely is the embryonic stage of a hornet nest.
