When I raked back the leaves, some thing had dug them up. They were beutiful plain home deopt yellow lillies 5-6 ft. tall that bloomed for over 4 weeks starting in early June. There are no vole/mole tunnels near by. Do skunks and racoons like lillies? Gosh I was thinking seriously about using all three types of lillies in my new perenial bed, now I'm not so sure...Adonika
Who ate my lillies?
Squirrels will dig to get bulbs, around here they are lazy and may go down 2-3 inches. Rabbits eat lilies but I haven't seen them dig. Another possibility is if you used bone meal and a dog came by to get at it.

Or they pulled themselves deeper and they are still there... Let's hope for that... Maybe what ever was digging around them didn't get them after all..

Had they started growing yet? How deep were the holes? I've had squirrels dig some fairly deep holes (for squirrels) but not deep enough to get the bulbs.
NC. hmm.... No vole tunnels. Are you sure? I planted some very special (to me) BuggyCrazy monsters last year just across the border in VA last year and I was told to make wire cages for the bulbs, because of voles.
The ground is clearly scrapped away above where the bulbs were. All the other lillies are up 6 inches or so. The easter freeze was no problem for them! No tunnels around the ground is sadly unamended red hard clay. We do have squirrels. The dog is dead so they are probably more bold now.
