My DB is putting in a deck for me, and unfortunately it is going to cover an area where I have a huge bleeding heart. I mean huge - it gets about 3-1/2 feet tall and just as wide. I figured while I was digging it up, I might as well divide it and plant it in front of my new deck, but I read somewhere they don't like to be disturbed. To make matters worse, it is already coming up!
Is it too late to move it, can I split it, and will I kill it if I do?
Zarebeth, I dug mine up about 5 years ago and divided it. it was the size that you describe. big mistake!!!! you're right they don't like it. I would just move the whole root ball and not divide. mine hasn't yet reached the size it was before I tampered with it. yours will still have to recover just from moving it. now, if I want a Dicentra in another spot, I go to the nursery and buy another one. good luck, Jim
