CLOSED: Summer Sizzler Swap
Is there room for me to join? I can do the bonus round too.
This is my first seed swap, so I could use some pointers.
Seandor
OK, with those type of deadlines, I can make that - - - surely. :-) Especially if it was the first of June. So, please add me to your list and I certainly want to do the bonus! :0)
I haven't been on much either, I have been extremely busy with my outside and since the storm blew off the barn roof - - - WELL, needless to say; that had to be fixed first. I hope things slow down for you a bit, silkie. School isn't far from being over now. That will help you a little, I hope. :-)
Seandor, I know Silkie would want me to WELCOME you to the swap. She is just really busy right now. I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have. I have done lots of swap and hosted several as well. :) Please feel free to dmail me anytime.
Hope everyone had a good weekend,
Belinda
oh, welcome welcome Seandor and belinda!!

gotta get kid's bathed for school tomarrow. ya all need to chat more, i miss hearing from ya!! if we can't fill more spaces soon we'll close it at 10 members if that's ok with everyone that way we can get busy. let me know what ya all think.

silkie

silkie
June 8th sounds great, silkie. I've got it on the calendar and will do my best to get my BE to you before then. :) I remember when my kids were little and summers were SO busy. I couldn't wait for school to start. LOL I know you will be extremely busy all summer long. Hang in there!
Susan, what a good looking grandson! Congratulations! Spoil him rotten for all of us.
I'm off to do housework for while. We'll chat more later. Have a great day!
Belinda
He's just Awesome Sue, congrats! I hope you're giving him lots of hugs and kisses (as if anything could keep you from it). Babies are the greatest thing that God has put on this earth to enjoy! You have to share more pics of him.
June 8th, it's on my calender, now to give my rear in gear.
Happy day everyone.
the 8th is good to go then. i just sat there and did up all my seed pkts a little bit ago for this one, they are cute so i hope ya all will enjoy them. now for belinda's swap it will be the hard one to decorate, lol. i'm still thinking up ideas for the hummer's. i love these swaps it is so much fun to meet new people and to share with all of you!! i hope you are all as excited about this swap as i am!!!
alright anyone else want to join?? if we only get 2 more people even that would help us greatly!!! please remember newbies are welcome if ya need help just ask. also bonus round is optional if for some reason you can't do it that's totally understandable please still join us for the swap as we'd love to have you join us!!!
thanks,
silkie
If you can't read the sign, it says Welcome to our Barnyard.
R
robin love the sign and the cute pups!!
alright i guess this time we won't have as many sign ups so this is last call for the swap i'd like to see 2 more join if we can do it, after today it will be closed so we can get started. the deadline for the be's is june 8th. if you cannot for some reason do the bonus it is alright please still join us in the fun of the regular seed swap, we'd love to have ya join us either way!!
thank you to all who have joined so far i look forward to hearing from all of you and can't wait for the fun!!
silkie
Mary and All,
My son Mike is going to have to have surgery on his Knee on Monday and I am going to have to bow out of the swap.. Between him and work I dont think I will be able to do it... I am sorry...
Susan
it's ok susan we understand things happen. best of luck to your son my dh had to have that done 3 years ago. in a few weeks mike will be feeling better than ever i promise. :-) hope things get better for ya and not so busy.
silkie
boy everyone in this swap must be busy bees lately cause i haven't heard much from ya,lol. well i've been up to planting also. i got j & p roses at a half price sale so i have been planting those and i got dahlias so been doing them also. cleaning my beds and fixing the fences the kid's knocked down too and spring cleaning finally, lol.
my dilute calico cat just had babies yesterday so i'm a new mommy again, hehe. she decided to have them in my heat duct so we rescued 3 of them. we brought them all in thankfully we found them as the babies were very cold. she had 2 more in the house i helped her have but one was still born and didn't make it. now i got 4 beautiful babies!! there is a cream/white, blue/white, light orange/white all boys and a black tiger stripe tortise shell calico who is the only girl. freddie and all her babies are all doing great!!
silkie
alright last call for signing up if noone else would like added i will add in again to make it we have 8 and mark the swap closed. we'd love to have more join us if ya can please!! thank you!!
Congrats on the babies! Can you box them up and send them too!? LOL I love kitties, but my DH hates animals. We do have two cats and a dog, so you know who wins that battle. post a pic when they start moving around!
lol, no but they will be given away when they are old enough :) i want to keep the little girl calico but my fav is the peach/white one. she has such beautiful colored babies every littter. they always go quick. momma is white with spots of peach and blue she is not normal calico coloration. it's neat every litter she usually has one tortouse shell or one dilute like her and then 2 that are her colors seperated a peach and a blue.
i will get pics as soon as i can it is hard cause my ports are bad have to have put on cd first to upload. i love them too but my dh don't,lol. i have 3 min pin's-mom, dad and daughter, a weimaraner, freddie and now 4 kittens and 3 cockatiels and 2 betta fish, oh and 3 bunnies-a red blonde lop, a white with gray spots lop and one that is blue looks like a chinchilla. me and the kid's are spoiled lots of babies to love. :)
here is a pic of my pick of litter as you can tell she is the runt, her name is libby. my savannah had 8 pups her first litter 2 girls and 6 boys. we found homes for all. everyone wanted libby but i couldn't sell her i fell in love with her.
silkie
alright here is the new list updated. i'm in twice so we have an even number. i have my first set of seed pkts all decorated and ready so i will get the others done up too. i'm so excited i hope you all are too! time to have some summer fun and get this swap going!!!! thank you to all who have joined!!!!!!!

What a sweetie pup. I love cats, we have six and are starting up a catery. Am I nuts or what? lol. Nuts is putting it mildly.
I know what I'm sending I just can't get in gear. With the car wreck, work, the gardening and today we find out my dh has to have eye surgery next week. This will be traveling to the VA hospital 120 miles away for three days in a row. First day will be all the testing, the second will be surgery and the third will be the check up and eye patch removal. Good thing my son lives up there, I can go and rest in between. We might even stay one night. I doubt it, there are too many responsibalities here. Maybe, while I'm there I'll get some inspiration. Lets hope so. Everyone have a good evening.
I haven't started my seed packs - this is exam week. I will try to do 14 "nice" seed packs - but don't expect great art!
lol, we always love to see all the different decorated pks. i'm not a great artist either, now if it was drawing that would be a little different. we will be thrilled to see and get them i promise!!
i hope this finds everyone with a great weekend. happy mother's day to all of ya!!! i just did up my second set of seeds tonight. so both sets are done and the freebies. i got my mind set on what my bonus and freebie ones will be now i just got to get my 2 gifts picked out and mine are all ready. how is everyone else's comeing along? i hope all is well with everyone i know how busy we all are.
talk soon,
silkie
Mary, All,
I know I had to drop out but I still wanted to wish you all a very HAPPY MOTHERS DAY ....
BIG HUGS,
Susan
Okay - I am a total newbie - I want to make sure I do everything correctly. I signed up for the bonus which involves cuttings. What qualifies as a cutting? I presume it must already be showing roots, correct?
it can be rooted cuttings, small plants, babies of a mother plant, shoots, rizomes, bulbs, seedlings, cuttings, ect-your choice but we want it to be a surprise what everyone get's back. the 4 can be all the same or different, kinds color ect is totally up to you all i ask is to label what you send cause i don't always recognize different species if it is named please list what it is.
silkie
Okay :-) Thanks. So - it should be something that (1) survives the trip to you and then (2) survives the trip to the recipient. Gotcha.
sorry i didn't get back to you sooner, yes. should we set a mail date to ship so they all come real close to same time? that way i can try to get them out within a day or 2 hopefully after they come in. i'd like to send back same day i get but with 6 other places comeing from they may not make it here same day. mabe like a date a few days before deadline and everyone ship that day so we can cut down transit time so less stress on them.
if any are not shippable back i will replace them with something i have here so everyone gets all good ones back not a prob. if it is something with roots i have root stimulator i can soak things in for a day or 2 if needed it will help the trip back. i have shipped live plants for many years and not lost a one,lol so please have faith in me and i surely will take care of ya all. i'm really excited and looking forward to this i hope you all are too!!!
everyone please post an update so we know how things are comeing along and if everyone is still with us. i have everything ready or figured all i have left is to to get my gifts which i'll do tomarrow when i get paid.
thanks,
silkie
seed covers are made - but don't expect creative genius. I am now selecting which seeds to send - and contemplating what to send as a bonus. Gift has been purchased. depending on what I select to send as a bonus, I could mail as early as Monday.
Cheers,
Seandor.
getting ready! let me know when!
i was not very creative this time, lol i used stickers and cheated but they turned out cute. we will all love them nomatter how creative they are or not. the fun is in trying and it is just a joy to see all the many ideas and different pkts. i'm not creative unless it is pencil drawings, quilt making, cake decorating and things of that nature.
mine are all ready also. i can't wait i hope you all are getting excited as time get's closer to swap! why don't we all post when they are ready then ya can all ship same day or next so they all come in very close together to lesson the travel time and stress. does that sound ok?
silkie
My cuttings are rooted - let me know when to send.
With these new postage rates, stickies are probably the best way to decorate now.
Silkie, which #box do you recommend with these new postal regs?
Maybe this'll bring back the art of training homing pigeons - can't you just imagine a pigeon with tiny baggies of seeds around his neck winging from seed trader to seed trader?
a few of us were thinking next week would be good for ship if it's ok with the others. i'd say a #4 priority is probably the cheapest but depending on weight and distance heck a flatrate might be cheaper for some. i believe if i remember right priority goes up to 2 pounds now not 1 and goes by size also. so the smaller the box the cheaper it would be. correct me if i'm wrong cause i haven't sent to many boxes since the new rates but i'm thinking that would be the cheapest. i think it is $6.85 mine were coming in and out.
hope that helps,
silkie
Thanks, Silkie :-)
alright ladies you may start sending your summer sizzler swaps at anytime. i got the first one in today!! to cute and great job belinda!! mine are ready and waiting also so that gives us 3 sets here and 5 more to come in. i'm really excited and i hope you all are too!!
hope everyone has a great weekend and hope to hear how everyone is comeing along with their be's.
hugs,
silkie
Silkie, so great to hear that you got my BE..........I am away at my parents helping out with my father for now; but please email me anytime if you need anything! Belinda
Sent mine in today - confirmation #0307 0020 0003 7268 8824
Mary, these are Mediterranean-type herbs that like it well drained and on the dry side, and they got soaked in the last couple days' rain, so I don't think their fragile roots need to be unwrapped and soaked, if they're going out soon. If you have to hold on to them for a few days, how about pricking the bottom of their wrapping with a pin, and watering from the bottom - not more than 3 minutes?
Also, they've been rooting under a magnolia tree, so although they prefer full sun, it might be best to air them out under a tree until they're off again.
Once they arrive where their home will be, they should be potted up for a couple of weeks (and watered from the bottom in between drying out) before being planted out, and gradually introduced to a sunny spot.
Hoping that Belinda's dad is coming along okay, and that Robyn's DH's surgery went well and that everyone has recuperated from that car wreck. May everyone have a gentle June.
Karen

Hi Silkie,
As you've noticed, the time we've all craved over the winter is finally here - sounds like your garden is bursting with with old-time beauties. Ain't it wunnerful?
For us, this has been one of the most beautiful springs - ever - didn't happen overnight - took 33 years - but, in recent years, there's been something to celebrate each day of the year - the little "wint-pring" bulbs January - April; appleblossoms "blowing" in May with pinks & iris; and now the meadow flowers are beginning - cranesbills and low bellflowers on the edges with lilies rising above but not blooming yet. The main flowering of roses has passed - if you can, it's always wonderful to grow some roses to walk beneath, others to bush out over thalictrum, daylilies and malva (seed from Ansonfan) and others being low repeaters along a path edged in rue, hyssop and a low, woolly, silvery mint from Critterologist - must find out which one it is.
One thing that makes this garden enjoyable is that bane of cottage flowers: shade. However, the sun's path through the trees gives just enough sun for some varieties of otherwise sun-loving plants to do well. In summer, with our heat and humidity, we are very lucky to have these trees - I think flowers look better in dappled light.
So, how's everybody else's garden doing? Belinda, I hope your Dad is comfortable - very sorry to hear he's ill.
Karen
