Ditto Cat!
Splinded yard! You think like me a lot when it comes to what purpose something has... We have very similar house and the soil was so gumbo like yours too. It's amazing how differently things grow down there, must be great to garden there. My before and afters are a world away as well.
Your tour is very inspiraional. I need to do this too, (and I plan to), but I am never finished, LOL!
Thank you for sharing it with us, your DG chums!!

Yard Pics...before I knew about butterflies and after...
Thanks ya'll!!!
...am seriously contemplating removing the Yellow Butterfly Vine. It's pretty but the butterflies and hummies don't use it...just those big black carpenter bees. It just so unusual...I kind of hate to dig it out. Have been trying to start cuttings to trade away but they won't take...so I placed some long tendrils on the ground...covered them with soil and set all those potted plants over them :o) As a last resort I will transplant it to the front flowerbed or take it to the ranch.
Have some aristolochia fimbriatas, stinging nettle vine and other larval hosts in pots that would probably do better in the ground...just haven't gotten around to it. Soon...soon...at least in time for the Fall season.

I'm struggling with where to put the Cuphea...and where to put a Texas Star Hibiscus...Then there is the question of where to put the different Cassia/Sennas I have this year too. The ones I got seed from Becky are the biggest now, and I have 2 others.
Sheesh!
Talk about not seeing a break any time soon for me!!
Cat, your yard looks great! A real hummer and butterfly haven!
Cat, you're an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your yard with us.

Cat, what a great picture show! Thanks for giving us all the details of the transformation! Maybe you should write a book!
