daltri thanks...; i just found out that we got broken into again last night...this time they did some MAJOR financial damage to us....took lots of stuff
Treasure found at my antique show!!
Oh, NO. :-(
(((Sticks)))
Love the story..... Great Visual..
Yes, I too negotiate at yard sales. depends though.. It its just a little higher than I think it should be.. If they are outrageously high on their stuff, I don't even bother and just leave. I'm just frugal.. Not cheap. I'm an awesome tipper....
There was one time my friend called as I had prayed about getting my kids a wooden play set/fort and new they were $2000+ and I was finding used for no less than $500 and then having to break it down and transport it here.. Friends said they had seen my new play set at a yard sale and I had to drive across town to see it and buy.. they called three times leaving messages telling me it was $200 and insisted I go look. Sooo.. I did, and my jaw almost dropped. I always always try to negotiate at yard sales. it's in my blood.. but i just couldn't!! It was such a great deal and I just asked if they would take a check and if they wanted me to return with cash.. The husband even helped my husband and friend take it down AND he brought a load in his own truck!! I couldn't believe it! My kids love that play set and I'm growing thorn less lady banks climbing rose on it.. It's blooming right now :) It will eventually grow all over it :) I love good deals!!
I've had my minivan packed to the rafters with plants pulled out of the trash! Funny!! Now I take the truck for such occasions... I was using the truck so much that DH got tired of driving the mommy van and got himself a company BMW. :)
If you were broken into once and it was an easy target, chances are good they will come back to do it again. I was once briefly in the security business.
Susan
Sticks-I can't believe you had another break-in so soon after the last one. That has to be disheartening. Keep your spirits up. At least you weren't there to be in harms way.

well i have been dealing with all this burgulary all day; then had to go to he doc about heel spurs and have 2 shots in the heel....all attributed to my lupus that they have said is out of remission; been on steriods for 2 months now and it hasn't helped....finally, while having the doc sticking my heel with 2 shots, i mention my arm...(a whole nuther story....fell of the roof 2 years ago painting..broke it in 3 places..see i am a hands on person....not a spoiled gal...)anyway, the doc looks at the arm and tells me that the bone has not even healed back...that what is keeping my arm together is fibroid tissue? ...and that i need surgurey immediately;
why is it that we are happy happy happy and life is good one moment and the next moment it is a tornado?? and i know that my life is good, but BOY, some bad stuff is happening right now....with the final thing happening, the past 2 days a customer that wrote us a hot check back in dec ...who came and picked it up in jan....now she is saying that we redeposited it 3 months later and that she is being charged 166 in overdrawn fees....after talking with our banker and her bank; we are coming to the conclusion that she is scaming us...our bank sez that they show nothing in our account or deposited in our account etc....when she finally has me talk to her bank, i ask them if the check was made to us....they tell me that they don't know who she wrote the check too....; THEN she changes the story....; tommorrow is friday the 13th...deep breath...please say some prayers for us; thank god we have US...my hubby me and my doggies and kitties and this great forum....sorry to sound like a wendy whiner but i don't do well with this much all at the same time much less coming off steriods and a lupus relapse...thank god i was able to go away last week but that 'escape' sorta agravates the whole situation....anyway, thanks for listening....now where were we ?? cottage garden finds...see next thread:

love the bmw story....us gurls need our big ole cars...and i guess them guys need their toys too....; my hubby is the most unpretentious person in the world...he is amazing; we have the 2 'good' cars and what does he drive to work everyday....a 1995 toyota corolla with 250000 miles on it ....it is like the energizer bunny...it keeps going and going and going...

Sticks, Sorry to hear about the Lupus and the arm. Hope the surgery goes well for you. Glad to hear they caught the thief.
But I got to say that Friday the 13th is my Lucky Day ... My Birthday. "o)
I hope it ends up being a Lucky day for you too!
soul, great story about the swingset. We had one of those wooden ones. We tried to sell it at our neighborhood garagesale, had it up for $300, figured someone would offer less. No offers the first day. The next day we had the price at $100. Let me say it wasn't in bad shape either. It never sold, we ended up giving it away to a friend of a friends friend. LOL That was kind of nice though ... the couple and the kids came over, we helped them take it down and load it. They were so thankful ... just the warm glow they gave us was enough in the end.

Sticks,
I'm sorry to hear things aren't going so well for you. So many things going on at once. I know the Lord will never give us more than we can handle, we just have to rely on Him to get us through. I will pray that the surgery goes well and you heal quickly.
I'm glad they caught the theif, it sounds like he can use some prayers as well. I hope he is able to get his life turned around.
toofew- That's a nice story. I'm glad you were able to find someone to use it and in the end, you felt good as well.
soul- It sounds like you got a great deal and having flowers grow on it is an excellent idea.
daltri surgery will be down the road....gotta get the foot going then will address the surgery...

TooFew........... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan
Thanks for the BD salutaions. :o)
Ended up spending most of the day at the Drs office and then the ER with my Dad. I guess it wasn't a very lucky day for him.
He's doing much better now.
Hey, next weekend a town nearby is having its citywide Garage sale and I'm off work!
You bet I will be going ... my daughter likes to garage sale with me so she will be coming too ... I hope. Will post pics if I find anything good.
toofew
let us know what you get!!!! i love garage sales estate sales and even goodwill.....show us pics; prayers for your father;)
I hate to really chisel on prices but a friend says "make me want to buy it." He does that when he likes it but can't justify buying it. As in ~ tempt me? Some times people will give him a better price. He isn't rude about it tho.
We had a 2nd hand store for more years than I care to think about. People could be downright ugly about it. We also had things being needed worse by someone else. A really neat old treadle sewing machine got parted out and we suspected another dealer. His thieving made our merchandise useless. What goes around will hopefully come back around....
This was my bargain perhaps for the Cottage Garden. A nice vintage concrete bird bath. It was so heavy, I moved the base first via little red wagon to the site. When we loaded the basin on the little red wagon, we had two wheels blow out and they are hard rubber. But I love it ~ for a mere $10.
pod that is a beaut....love getting outdoor stuff on the 'cheap'.... very purdy indeed;
as for goes around comes around....who knows...i am still very angry about this theft....but will figure it out...
Sticks I am sorry that you have to go thru this on top of everything else but I'm going to say you can not take it personally.
No doubt this LTI has a drug problem and would say he "can't help himself". Unfortunately no one else can either. Sorry his folks have allowed him to garner sympathy on their behalf. I assure you he won't quit this behavior. Rehab in the state pen does not seem to change their outlook, they only have one less unknown to be afraid of... If I sound sarcastic, I am. Have been convinced of this by this type of character over and over. I have seen them ruin lives, not only theirs, but their families, friends and victims like yourself.
Forgive but don't forget. Learn from it and put it behind you. His life is not worth your worry, yours is! Best wishes pod
Sticks need to add: I LOVE your cafe' table and chairs, that is a keeper! and so it the story on its' discovery. Love it... pod
Love the fountain :) Sorry about the thief :(
I Love yard art and things I find at sales to put in the yard.. Were it not for baseball this morning, i might have found some good stuff!!
I love "make me want to buy it".. I'm going to use that line!!
Susan

Thanks :) We both have white fences too! :)
Susan
i wanna see your white fence....do show!!!!
The slate stones are leftovers that would have been thrown in the trash on high end new pool construction. I know the guy that works for the company and he is told to throw them away.. They come to my house instead. I pay him for his time and for bringing them, but it isn't near full retail, as I have priced them :) I have offered to go and pick them up and he told me no.. someone might get upset that they were being used instead of being thrown away since they were bought and paid for with good money.. Can you believe that?? I approached a builder about left over stones and he said yes come back and get tehm.. we were wondering what to do with them.. talk to the foreman and when I did he said I couldn't have them.. and he didn't have any left over..
Seems they like to throw it away instead.. sad!!
I'm growing creeping thyme in between the cracks.
susan...what is planted in pic 255 ...and is it all day sun....i don't think i can grow it cause i don't have all day sun but it is worth a try...
i also have that paved stone...we are twins...have you seen corgimoms fence that is just like ours?
Yes we are twins and yes.. sometimes I actually stay quiet (hard to believe) on some threads, but I've seen your fence LOL!!
Hmm which plant.. the tall ones.. brugs.. the ones on the left.. sedums?? The big blooms.. Disco Belle hibicus?? Which one? :)
Susan
Love it!! :) I just can't make out the "tree"... is it a brugmansia?? otherwise know as angel trumpet??
:)
Susan
no it is the same as you have planted in front of your fence....(junipers)
Susan, those landscape beds in front of your fence are wonderful! What a treat for anyone passing by... so bright and welcoming!
I really like your yard art, and I appreciate the fact that you have a light touch with it. As you said, the trick is to balance it out with plenty of plantings, so that the ornaments are a whimsical surprise rather than the cheesy/junky look that can result from way too much of a good thing! You have a wonderful eye!
critter/susan...i agree about the yard art...i think there is a fine line that can be crossed and then yard art can look junky...susan yours looks great....you have a good eye...
okay.. I'm a goofball! Duh! yes, the junipers in front of the fence.. exactly the same!! :) I can't remember my cultivar right off hand.. hmmm??
Thanks Critter.. Yes, I like the "whimsy effect"!!
Susan
There is a little house on he way to my in-laws that makes me smile every time I see it!! It's like a little piece of folk Americana!! :) The yard art is very prolific and their is no real garden to speak of!! :) I told my husband that is my goal he he!! :)
Susan
there is a house that is on the way to my hubbies deer/beer lease...hubbie told me that next time i went with him he would show me.....; well, we go down there and a lady had a 100 thousand pieces of wrought iron in front of her house.....it was awful...and i am a wrought iron freek but hers was too much....it was not well done.....; anytime i bring any more yard art home he reminds me of her house.....cause it is SO BAD.....; i hope that i don't become so used to my stuff that it begins to look like hers....but i try to keep it well done...; i may have crossed the line, but hopefully not...
I want to cross the line!!! I want my neighbors to call the county and complain and get a yard art ordinance in effect whaaahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding.. But I did think some roll their eyes.. Like I care!! :)
I think some people can grab onto an obsession.. Like mine is obviously my garden, and just not let go.. Like I really wont know what to do with myself once my garden is filled to the brim and over planted as I'm sure it will be one day. I guess I'll have to go into business then :)
Susan
