Mahnot you seem to be on almost all the threads that I am watching. We must have similar interest. They say great minds think alike, so I assume the opposite is true to. I feel sorry for you lol. I never experienced a natural disaster first hand. I have only seen pictures and stories. I always heard California has alot of earthquakes. At some point I need to change my name as I am afraid that with my since of humor that I might give a bad name to my lovely wifes business. I guess I will tell yall a sad story before I go to bed. My wife handles foreclosures for banks. Most banks will contract with a realtor and one of the first duties is for the realtor to offer cash for keys if the debtor or tenant of the debtor vacates by a said date and cleans up the property. I always go with her in case someone is violent. About a month ago we went to a house in Arlington and an elderly man opened the door. I felt safe for her so I went back to reading a magazine. I glanced back at the door and saw he was leaning towards her and she was reaching up appearing to catch him. I assumed he almost fell and I went back to my magazine. I heard her yelling for me and she was half way back to the car waiving for me. I went to her and she said he told her he was going to bite her and then he tried and she had to push him away. We walked back up to the porch and she tried to explain the situation and the offer to him and he got beligerant with her and said that as far as he knew the house was paid for. An eviction was scheduled for early last week but his son called her and said that he had his 95 year old father refinance the house and then the son spent the money and was wanting to know if he could reinstate the loan. The bank would not do that but at least cancelled the eviction. The next door neighbor made contact with my wife and told her that she feeds him but that her husband has to go with her because the man does not always recognize her because he suffers from dimentia. She told my wife that his son takes care of his bills and that the mans utilities are cut off for nonpayment quite often. My wife forwarded all of the information to the constible/constable and he was going to forward the information to adult protective services. A representative from APS was suppossed to be there when the man was moving but never showed up. The elderly mans deceased wife's sister and her husband decided to take him home with them. His sister-in-law told my wife that she had known the man since she was five years old. He had two sons. The older one was on drugs and passed away some years ago. The suppossed good son pretty much took his house. When the sister-in-law got there from Louisiana he followed her around like a lost child. This was one of the saddest cases I have ever seen. Nothing to do with this forum, but my garden friends seem like good people in this messed up world and just felt like sharing this with yall. At least his former sister-in-law and her husband had a good heart. Goodnight,
Mike
Still much in use ???
wow, that is so sad. But for the Grace of God Go I.
Yes, very sad that things like this can happen, I suppose your wife sees a lot of sad cases.
How was the Wildflower Center? Beautiful as usual I suppose?
Josephine
Mike, I've been accused of a great many things in my life,
some true - some not, but never of having a great mind, LOL,
so I'll just grin and bear it. :o)
Such a sad story about that poor old man. I'm so glad to hear
that he now has someone to look out for him. King Lear
said it: "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have
a thankless child." God keeps excellent books and the son
will get what's coming to him, in spades.
Won't we all.
Dang nabbit, we're just s'posed to say, Well, BLESS HIS HEART, and move on. Now we're all sad for an old man. But that's what it is to have a heart.
Hi all, and a big HOWDY-DO lily lol. Just got back from Waco. My stepdads been pretty sick the last two years and they have no insurance so he has to use the VA. There is one in Waco for office visits and he has to go to the one in Temple for anything else. Glad I have insurance. Bout takes an act of congress to get the VA to do anything.
My wife does run in to alot of sad stories. They are suppossed to making it harder to get a sub-prime loan which will take a big chunk out of foreclosures.
It was a cold day when we were at the wildflower center, but it was interesting and pretty. We live next to Argyle Acres which is an Iris farm. Everything seems to be in bloom right now. On our way home from Waco today we saw signs on FM407 that the owners were having a Iris show at there home today. If ya'll are in to Iris's you oughta come out. They are good folks. Take care, Mike
Well, dag nabit, but I kain't come !
I'm sure it must be gorgeous.
Last night finally ketched da pesky feline kritter dat dun et my yard-bird yesterweek. Sharif dun went en sent a feller to git it. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :o)
I was in Phoenix at the Nascar race and it was a nice weekend. Tell that cat to skidaddle and stay there.
The good news is he done skidaddled, the bad news is after the great skidaddle we felt safe so my wife wanted to let our month old guineas out of their cages and leave the door open to the hen house and all of the Guineas skidaddled except for 3, and the one I accidentally ran over with the lawn mower. Anybody know if they will come back? Had 19 yesterday. Thanks in advance, Mike
I don`t know much about chickens but I think I won`t look to dumb to say the one that was run over with the lawn mower AINT A COMIN BACK. pobrecito.
lol. We had over 5" of rain so far today and the 38' wide drainage easement the county took from us 2 years ago is overflowing. It is raining right now and is suppossed to rain off and on through the night. I wish I had ducks instead of guineas, then I would know they are allright but as it is I think none AINT A COMIN BACK. Be sure to watch the news for me telling folks bout da pandamonium we er havin rat-now es et aint no yarn I thank I ottoo declare my property and my garden a national disaster. I thank its dem folks up north of da mason dixon causin all dis rain and it aint copasetic (get the California seniorita to check the spelling on that one lol). Very good sept fer da pertnear Hope for a fast recovery fer ya!
thank ya kindly
Can guineas swim?
No i don`t think so but they can fly atleast like a quail so they are probably roosting somewhere waiting it out or working on an ark.
Dawn, good wishes for your surgery.
Spent quite a bit of time tonight in the hallway with the
dogs and the cat. Lost power for a few minutes several
times but all things considered, it wasn't that bad by me
this time. Of course, there was a lot of rain and it came
down in droves. The tall bucket I keep outside to catch rain
water for the houseplants is overflowing. Eagle Pass had
6 people killed and 81 reported injured - God help them all.
I was at the post office late this afternoon when it all started
coming down - sheets of driving rain - lightning, wind, tornado
sirens were going off and the post office has no place to take
shelter ! The entire front of the building is large plates of glass.
Good thinking there. Almost didn't make it home and there
was so much water collecting on the streets that the cars looked
more like boats, plowing through the water and making a big
splash on each side. I had an umbrella but got soaked to the
skin anyway.
Guinea fowl - I love 'em. Sure wish I could keep some here.
They're great watchdogs and will eat every single bug on the
property. You have to have an acre here to keep critters,
and I have only .45 acres. Would love a pair of Nubian goats
too. Oh, well. Kain't cumplain - got more blessin's than I ken
deel with. Ah'm blessd. Hope you're all safe.
I checked this morning, still got two guineas. I don't think they can fly yet. Hope they was building an ark, but seen a buzzard circling low out back, not a good sign. We got a Texas gardening magazine in the mail Monday with an article bout guineas and other fowl for the garden. A little late but some good info for the next batch if I decide to try it again. It says they are smart but have to be trained not to wonder off. Chickens are dumb but they already seem to know.

Murray McMurray can answer all your questions about fowl.
Sorry you lost so many of your guineas. I just love them.

Oh, gosh. Now I'm really needing to find my CD of
Tuna, Texas. How I love that Didi Snavely and Petey Fisk.
Of course, Aunt Pearl is my all time favorite.
?????????????????
It can't be explained - you've got to see it for yourself, LOL.
http://greatertuna.com/
Oh I have to figure out how to do it, I have too much security, one thing blocks the next from downloading. dh may be able to do it. I`ll try later.
Mahnot, if'n y'all didn' get raised up here, you won't know we take a year of Texas history in school. Mighty fine stuff.
We're the only state in the union that can fly the state flag as high as the US flag. The union needed us more than we needed them, so they conceded that, among other things.
'Member th' Alamo, y'all!
What I always wondered is how can a state that remembers
the Alamo forget Audie Murphy, the most decorated hero
of WW II ? I've done tests and asked several people here
and nobody has heard of him - unless they are an old veteran.
What a guy he was. I remember ditching school in Chicago
to go sit in the movie theater and watch his films - not that he
was that great an actor, but there was just something about the
way he clenched his jaw......
http://www.audiemurphy.com/
I remember going to a theatre seeing two movies and two cartoons and being able to sit there all day if you wanted to and being searched for contraban junk food.
It was a great day when you ditched school and there
was a double feature that day at the show. :o)
What a different kind of freedom kids today have. I wouldn't be a teenager now for all the tea in China. I wouldn't say no to 40, though...
Double features with cartoons and newsreels, and a bag of Sugar Babies cost a nickel...
