MG Photo Contest .. And the Winners Are.........
Congratulations to both winners. I thought all the pictures were great but everyone could not win and it was a well run contest. Thanks for doing it X.
dee
Congrats to the winners! Garder, that is a great picture with the dappled sun. Beth, it is tough to get better than that shimmering color.
Great job, X.
Arlan
Great pick!! Congrats to you both!!! ☺
Very nice pictures - congratulations!
Wow,I didn`t expect to win. :)
Beth your picture looks like an exquisite porcelain figurine. It would be an honor for any artist to come anywhere near as close as this to representing such beauties!
Congratulations.Nice! Photos
Congratulations to both, great photos..
A.
One more thing now that I`m over the shock that I won. Thanks to you X for having the contest. And if you like the print please feel free to make one to keep for yourself. :)

Next time you have a contest, please make it a little longer. I did not know about it till it was over. Congrats to the winners.
What in the world is ugly about what I said? I just would have liked a chance to enter one of my pictures. Some of us have lives beyond Dave's Garden.
gardenpom - I don't perceive your request to be out of order at all
taynors
http://davesgarden.com/members/taynors/
- if you think any pictures or anything that is shared here is ugly I support your right to call it as you see it...of course this is the MG forum and so the people who share here are most often MG enthusiasts...Good Karma to you to...(!)
TTY,...
Ron
Thanks for your support Ron....
We all share what we have to share...if you have 'something' to share >whatever that 'something' may be (e.g., photos, opinions, smiles, beauty an open mind or other feelings) you are free to share it...
if you don't have something >then you can't share what you don't have...
The holidays can certainly be stressful >dealing with family and 'whatnot'...domestic squabbles can certainly extract their 'toll'...trying too hard to 'be happy' can wind up making you feel resentful...
we're all human and have our limitations...perhaps better to be easy and flexible than to remain brittle and to 'snap'...
a little laugh or a little cry is all we have in life...still >this is the day that Creation has made for us...we're reborn again every micro-second and in that sense we are all always as little children who are ever re-freshened up(!) always blooming...
it's(always) the season of re-birth...let's try to share a helpful vibe...
TTY,...
Ron
The winning picture is excellent and would have been my choice also. I did not mean to sound resentful, if anyone took it that way I am really sorry. Hope it can be done again sometime in the future with a longer entry period so more people will have time to enter. Hope everyone has a nice, peaceful Easter.
Congratulations to the winners!!!!! Paul
Sorry you missed gardenpom. If I do another I'll make sure it goes thru the weekend.
I have found the best way to deal with someone desperate for attention is not give them any. People like KayJones & taynors, for the most part lurkers who don't contribute to this forum on a regular basis aren't worth the energy to even acknowledge them.
I'm glad everyone enjoyed it.
Xeramtheum
gardenpom, I understood what you meant. Sure the next contest can go on longer. I personally enjoyed all the entries and the effort that was put into this and I`m sorry you missed out. Next time will be different. :)
I have never seen an ugly morning glory. They are all beautiful. In these contests it is tough because you have to pick One. I doubt anyone is growing only one morning glory vine. They are like Lays potato chips.

I agree, I think every pic of a Morning Glory is beautiful also. I have seen many, many gorgeous pics on this forum over the last few months. I hope next time a lot more people will enter a picture. Thanks.
Thanks, X, for hosting the contest. I can't believe a "plain old" purpurea would even get votes. I didn't even vote for my own entry, LOL! But I'm happy to get some note cards. Thanks to all and this was fun. Let's do it again sometime!
Hi X, I just got my big picture prize and it is very nice. Thanks very much!!!! Karen
X Great job on the photo contest. A+++. What an enthusiasm builder.
This will challenge people to learn about digital imagery, how to use their cameras effectively and we will get better more infocus pix in the future. There is a new standard for photography at the best forum on dg.
I have so much new stuff coming at me, I need to shave my head to keep from tearing my hair out . New to me computer, ms xe, new camera with too many whistles and bells, new browser, and it is repotting time already.
I just put in about 20 kinds of jmgs and they started poking up in less than 24 hours. I hope that doesn't mean helmets and hats again. This time I soaked them on heat, 75 F, in snoose cans, drained them, left them on heat for the rest of the day and wow.
I have been toying with the idea of an annual photo contest with many categories, where we all contribute some choice seeds, have maybe 4 places to win. This would serve to challenge some of the lurkers to go out for photography for the summer and maybe get some better fotos for the plant file. And possibly win some seeds that usually go for dollars each.
If we have a long time to think, strategise, plan, etc, you know every one will make the most of any long trips or vacation, with their cameras.
Thanks again for the joy ride, it was a blast.
I agree with you Frank. It is very hard work but that is part of what makes it fulfilling when you look around and see how nice things look. I`ll be on the look out for more glories this summer!
Wow beautiful how can you choose? I am growing morning glories for the first time this year. I have struggled trying to fight the invasive kind and thought they were all like that. If you scratch the soil here you will see them sprout in gillions in that scratch. I have not been able to find a preemergent that will stop those seeds from sprouting. I don't know the name but it has a small purple bloom. Thanks to you here at Daves I have discovered that there are beautiful MGs that that I can add to my garden without creating a monster. I certainly don't know much about them. I have some coming up that say Jap MG that seem to have thorns. Should I allow these to be planted out or not. I have some that are called Lavender Moon vine ,what are they? Most all of the ones I have I received in swaps. One is called blue enchantment a bush morning glory.
Blue enchantment bush? That sounds exciting. Get your camera dusted off and get ready to post us some pix when bloom begins, There is nothing here more welcome than something new and unexpected. That really keeps us on our toes and wide awake. I am just learning how to post pics and I sometimes feel like I wind up with my foot in my mouth, but that is common fare when we are learning to use new media. I am looking forward to the blue bush pictures I hope you will post for us in a few months. Welcome aboard. Frank
This is going to be the best year ever on this form. there has ever been. So many people have learned how to take pictures and post them and there are so many more people than there were a year ago, geez, I just cannot wait for blooming outside to get started. This is going to be a block buster year for the MG forum. . It is exciting just talking about it. We will have to remember to save som pix to get us through the winter again, though.
Spring happes too fast, after such a long protracted winter. Enough said, Frank
I will certainly take pictures if they survive uppotting. So far most of my MG have. I have heard they do no like their roots disturbed but I have carefully uppotted to styrofoam cups that can be peeled away from the roots. I have a new camera so you may be sorry you asked for pics.
Riverland - The purple Moonvine could be
Ipomoea turbinata
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/69456/index.html
or
Ipomoea macrorhiza
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53206/index.html
Does the 'weedy' one look like one of the species I linked to in the following thread(?)
http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3391280
TTY,...
Ron
No my weedy one is a small bloom , light purple. It is sprouting from individual seeds. I can easily get them out with a trowel. It is just so many of them sprouting it I disturb the soil. I have never seen a seed though.
I'm not sure about the purple moom vine since they have not bloomed yet.

Riverland - if you could take photos of the seedlings or the more mature plant that would help, but the only other MG's that are likely to be in your field or garden are
Ipomoea cordatotriloba
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53063/index.html
Ipomoea lacunosa
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/123099/
TTY,...
Ron
Ron I do believe it is Ipomoea cordatotriloba thank you for the information. The land I live on was neglected for years so it had plenty of time to set all this seed that keeps coming up. The seed must be viable for many years since I have not allowed a vine to mature in the last 3 years.
I m here to apologize to anyone who was offended by the remark that was made by me.
First off , IT WAS NOT ME !!!
I was on a public comp while traveling with my family and someone must have pretended to be me. The login must have been saved on that comp so the next person could login as me ? that is all i could think of ?
I would NEVER make such a rude comment as was stated above from an April 7 post .
PLEASE accept my DEEPEST APOLOGIES to anyone i have hurt !! :(
I have called the RV park where we stayed and they have deleted my info from their comp, so when someone goes to davesgarden it wont be my login info, just the basic home page.
Once again my deepest apologies !! to everyone and anyone i have hurt.
The pics are beautiful !!!
