My guess is when birds are nesting they will eat a lot of unusual foods. She needs to keep her energy up.

The second duck looks like a Muscovy

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Marilyn: I agree with GLD, that 2nd one is almost certainly a muscovy - a young one or a female, IMO.
I love the crested ducks. We have some all-white ones at our pond down the street. They're so cute with that little puff-ball on their heads.

Thanks I thought it might be a muscovy but wasn't sure.

Both of them of course farmyard escapes. The crested one is a farm breed of Mallard.

Great Shot Gary! Very pretty birds!

Nice photos, everyone ....

Gary, there are quite a few sub-species of the Canada Goose. Here is a link to a list of these sub-species. I tried to place it into one of them but wasn't successful. Good capture !!!!

Thats interesting, I never realized there were many different types of Canada Goose.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

This doesn't look like a separate subspecies to me, I'd suspect it is just a leucistic individual. The pale legs certainly suggest this, as all of the normal subspecies have black legs. It is also structurally very similar to the other bird it is with. I've seen several leucistic individuals in Greylag Goose and Pink-footed Goose; they are fairly frequent.
