Stuck Seed Coat

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I planted the last of my original Blue Picotee seeds. One of the seeds had a stuck seed coat. Since these were my last 3 seeds I got in a panic as nothing would budge it without severely harming the cotyledons. So in a last ditch effort I injected water in various places between the coat and cotyledons with a needle & syringe through out the day and this evening it softened up enough to ease it off.

Here is a link to a supersize version, 3.4 megs.

Glad it came off. I try to gently pull them off and 85% of the time it works. Then there are those few that just won't budge....

Cool pix, X. Glad you pried it off his head; just like Frank described in another thread: looks like a helmet.

I have (gulp) beheaded a seedling or two trying to 'help' them lose their seed coats.

It was my blue picotee .. I call them silly hats but this one was definitely a helmet! I've been having more than usual stuck seeds .. I think it's because the humidity is so low.

The humidity here is high and it isn't helping. My floridus seedlings germinated on 30 march and are still wearing the hats 8 days later. I have a group of pix to post, but have to get the software for my camera from my Daughter. Hopefully tomarrow. Frank
