Weeding: This is my first year letting some things go to seed (reseeding annuals mostly) and I am totally flummoxed by the seedlings I have coming up: Friend or Foe? OMG! I have a million things coming up, and I thought I would remember from sowing them last year what they look like, but I don't. I don't even kow if soehting I have that is sort of small is an errant goldenrod or a plant I want. It is so sad...how long I have been gardening and how little I really know.

I've finally learned what seedlings to let grow and which to pull (for the most part).

Oh I love this time of year. Check out the primula bed by my pond.

Hole-eeee Cow! Where did you find those gi-normous Primulas? What kind are they?

Doesn't matter -- here's what happens to me: I buy something like 6 Primula vialii from Dutch Gardens for $20.00. The following year I get 3 sickly lavender and 3 dirty white "things" that are probably P. denticulata. The flowers ar little, the whole globe is small, and I was totally disappointed. Yours look like youbought them from the florist or some thing. Ahem, if you are ever offering seeds on those, I would certainly NOT turn them down!!!

I have mostly P. Japonica They love it by the spring & pond. All primulas seem
to do well there. Here's another shot showing a few other types of primroses including
my first vialii

That's a gorgeous bed Tammy! The rocks are a good idea, they will help keep the roots moist. I had a big healthy P. vialii but it died over it's first winter. They are not really a perennial here, I don't know if they are anywhere. It will be interesting to see if yours is.

I put that bed together about 6-7yrs ago. The primula just love it there. The
area is consistantly moist and cool due to the spring - which is always cold.
They self seed like mad in this area. (I hauled out a lot of rock - it was practically
all rock and no soil when I started.)

The pond was completely surrounded by multiflora roses and other brambles. It took
a couple of years to dig them all out and then make beds around the pond. But it was
sure worth it. Its my prettiest spot on the whole property now.

Just beautiful!!!!

The rocks are just there? That's weird. :) If we ever found a rock here, it would be while digging a house foundation/basement, and it would stop the whole thing while everybody went out to look at it...like a form of space creature or other alien.. We have done it twice here in additions we made to the house, but never found a single rock. We buy them by the pound. (And I bet you think that's *really* weird!)

Suzy - I actually bought rocks for my previous property. This one
seems to grow rocks.

Oh, then my story wasn't that strange to you. That's good!

Looks like the rocks growing there are coming up in the exact right spot, tho :)
