MG Photo Contest

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I've been itching for an excuse to print out a 13 x 19 picture on my large format printer so I decided to host a MG picture contest so I'll have an excuse.

Rules have been changed slightly to make it fairer

The picture file can be any size. Those less than 5 mb will have to be printed as a 5x7 then scanned by me. I will be doing both the 5 x 7 and the scan so the winner will send only a digital file. Please realize you will be losing some clarity with this procedure. Ideally I would like the uncropped raw photograph of which your entry has been made from.

Only 1 entry per person. Please do not post pictures in this thread that are not entries

You can enter pictures starting today through Wednesday. Voting will be on Thursday & Friday and Winner announced on Saturday.

First place receives a 13 x 19 print cropped to their specifications.

Second place receives an 8 x 10 cropped to their specifications or 10 notecards with envelopes with their picture on the front.

...megabytes or megapixels...? - Arlan

Mesilla Park, NM

Can it be an old photo?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Mega bytes. Yes it can be an old photo as long as the digital file is 5 megs or better.

Here is my entry 'Hama Fubuki' a JMG vine that I grew last year. They grow big beautiful flowers that stands out and have variegated leaves. Great fun idea X

The largest picture I can get from my camera is 1600 x 1200 pixels This is my very favorite flower picture. The soft blues of the flower, green grass in the background and the trees make this a calming and peaceful picture.

My camera is 5 megapixel, but the photo files score less than 5 megs. Maybe because I cropped them slightly.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

The file has to be 5 megabytes in size or better. Ideally the picture the winners send will be the original uncropped photo's. The final product will be cropped and enhanced to winners specifications.

Hmm .. the problem with smaller pictures is that the pixels start falling apart when you try to resize them and the quality is terrible. I'll make some changes in the rules.

Wow, nice pictures. Arlan, yours is my favorite.

Nichole, That picture is very nice. The flower has a character and a place to live. I really like this one. :)

I learned real fast to get the scene or whatever I wanted to represent in the frame and take more than one picture to avoid too much cropping so I could be able to print them out in full size.

I did read it carefull but I don`t understand what a 5 mb picture is. I have my entry in a 1600 x 1200 pixel size though. My camera is a 2 megapixel and stores 1600 x 1200 pixel pictures. Is that ok?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Right click on the photo, chose "Properties" from the menu, and then see the file size displayed

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I have this one in both sizes. One 500 pixel copy is for on this thread. The other is 1600 x 1200 pixel for printing and too big to post here.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Megabytes are how large the actual file is. I don't know what graphics program you are using but most of them have something in the corner like the picture here that shows you it size.

Here is one that I like the way if came out. I like the sheen on the flowers.

Same 2 flowers with the light through them rather than on them....which one is better????????? I'll withdraw the one that people don't like.

Okay, IGNORE THIS ONE...I can't delete the photo. The other one is better.

My file is 5.37 mb so it will not need to be printed and scanned. It will print out a big picture exactly like the small copy I put in the thread without doing anything to it.

They are all so nice! You might have to draw a name out of a hat! We have these enourmous printers here at work that are used for printing out movie posters or advertisments or blueprints. They are called plotters and they take a big file.

Thank you - it took a few tries to get the bee(it might be a fly) in focus
