How much water do lilies need? I'm in the PNW and we get a lot of rain winter and spring, but from July til around the beginning of Nov, it's pretty dry. I'm trying to decide where to plant them based on how much watering they'll need.
Thanks,
Gwen

Hi Gwen,
Lots of lily growers out in your area. Lilies like to be in moist, but not wet, conditions. Drainage is the most important thing so some folks plant on a slope or in raised beds if their gardens tend to get water logged.
Hoping another lily fan from your area will come along with more tips for you.
I did some research on the web and most of all the sites said that except for one kind of lily (which I now forget but it wasn't the kind I was planting), lilies are okay with watering slacking off after they bloom. So I think I'll be able to plant them around the pond like I wanted. I don't have a hose that will reach out there and the pond is manmade (with a liner) so the plants don't really benefit from the pond water ex that sometimes I go out there and dip a bucket into the pond and water the plants around it. But I'd rather try and get plants that can make it on their own without me doing that as I have plenty elsewhere to keep watered throughout the summer!

Sounds like they'll be OK. If you're not sure, stick your finger in the soil ~ if it's still moist a couple inches down, they're fine.
Enjoy your lilies and post pictures when they bloom!
