Return of a hoya addict

San Francisco, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi everyone,

I'm a hoya aficionada in San Francisco. I used to post a lot on the Gardenweb forum a few years ago, but then life got in the way as I moved, married, and had a baby all in short order. Now my life is a bit more under control and I'm excited about delving into a favorite hobby again. I recognize a few names (Hi Carol and Leslie!).

Right now I have blooming or budding:
H. mindorensis
H. subcalva
H. ischnopus
H. kerri
H. australis
H. motoskei
cv. sunrise
H. lacunosa
H. calycina

Most of these came from the lovely Carol Noel.

We'll see if the H. subcalva actually blooms or not. It's put out some funky white-and-green leaves in addiction to the peduncle. Reading this forum, I've learned how difficult it is to bloom. But I also read that about the H. mindorensis, and it bloomed in my unheated flat in February!

Happy to be among follow addicts again.

cheers, Julia Scheeres

I Julia...welcome back to the land of addictions!!!

Hi Carol, Thanks! It's good to be back. I forgot to mention my H. mathilde is also budding and sending out new vines like gangbangers. This is a hoya that a vendor wanted $25 a cutting for a couple of years ago....I'm assuming it's more available now (and cheaper).

Hi Julia, nice to meet you! I was fortunate enough to recieve H. mathilde in a trade last summer (thank you again DG forum member) and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Mine has yet to bloom but it's growing like crazy. I'll be looking for your bloom photos. God bless, -joanne

Hi Joanne, nice to meet you, too.
Here's my cv. Mathilde...it's got at least 12 peduncles! It's my fastest-growing hoya at the moment, and the least finicky.

Hi Julia and welcome back to DG.

Welcome back Julia,
Funny how "life" can get in the way of the important things huh? It really is nice how forgiving hoyas and good friends can be about a little neglect. Congratulations on your marriage, and your new baby!! Very exciting.

Thanks for the welcomes. I was actually on the Gardenweb forum before, but decided to buck up and pay the $25 subscription to DG bc it seems this is where a lot of pros lurk....and I was growing increasingly frustrated bc whenever I did a search on a particular hoya, most of the results would point to DG and I couldn't access the pages. Very frustrating!

Welcome back Julia. You certainly will find a lot of pros here, with advice on any hoya subject you could imagine. You'll find lots of humour too. But most of all, you'll find many, many wonderful pictures of hoya flowers.
