What do you do when you've been deceived?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

How devastating it was to get up this morning to find something I've been waiting for for so long finally arrive and turn out to be not what I expected.

This is the second time I have been deceived by the same person who will remain nameless for now. The first time I accepted the possibility of human error. I don't think I'll accept that excuse a second time.

What I thought was Sunrise Serenade turned out to be I don't know what. I traded for some hard to come by vigna caracalla seeds. I will withold judgement until the other vines in the pot start blooming. If the others turn out to be the same, I'm not sure what I can do.

Any suggestions other than leave honest feedback?

That looks kind of like Sydney. Did you buy any Sydney? The person could have goofed their seed labels. I`d wait and see just in case. It is also possible if you traded for open seeds that this could be a result of cross pollination.

I have Sunrise Serenade I can send you if you`d like them.

tell them that you are un happy and leave feedback. i am sorry this has happened to you.

I`d leave feedback that the seeds were not true to type but only after I waited to make sure I didn`t mislabel something or accidentally drop a seed in the wrong pot. Another idea is if they were cross pollinated by bees then it would be somewhat unfair feedback if there was no specification that the seeds were hand pollinated. If they were open pollinated seeds grown with other different varieties and colors then you can expect to see some of them(or even possibly all of them) come out different if not now then later especially if there are many purpureas growing in the same garden.

I will never trade open pollinated seeds without making it clear they may not be true seeds. If I sell the open pollinated seeds they are labeled open pollinated with no guarantee on coming true to type or they go into seed mixes. I really prefer to hand pollinate because I feel more confident the seeds will come out right.

There are 3 other vines in the same pot which are suppose to be SS. I haven't started any seeds of that color this year. Like I said, this person did this before, the last time getting some of my harder to find JMG seeds of which I had precious few. I accepted their excuse of human error but were unable to send me my other seeds back as they had already planted them. They then told me they were out of what they were suppose to send me and sent me Split Personality. If the Split Personality turn out to be something else I'm really going to be upset as I have 4 of them growing in the greenhouse.

This episode has left me so despondent that every time I see a mg like the above, what I'm feeling now will come back to haunt me. Brain chemistry unfortunately works that way. I know it's silly to feel this way, but I do. Harry Chapin was so right when he said "it's got to be the going, not the getting there that's good".

Guoted: This episode has left me so despondent that every time I see a mg like the above, what I'm feeling now will come back to haunt me.

Please, my dear - they are only seeds. If you get 'despondent' over seeds, I would not like to see how you would handle a real crisis! Re-think your mental state over seeds - it is totally over the top!

X cheer up.

I have something simular to Sunrise Serenade called Capetown Pink that I can send you. It will produce large heart shaped leaves with lots of flowers. It`s very agressive and fast growing producing long vines. D-Mail me your address if you want some.

X,
I had this experience years ago with someone on Ebay. Spent well over $125 on seeds and several were not what they were supposed to be including Gypsy Bride and Wedding Bells. It is really upsetting. I have a few extra Vigna Caracalla left that I planted this tray from. I think I have some SS too somewhere but they may be a few years old. These are the same as Hige aren't they?

X, I just got finished culling some seedlings that were supposed to be shibori leaf. Only one out of 4 came out right... a result of open pollinated seeds....and luck made it possible for the one that came out right. It was very possible they would all be "wrong" and you know I was so pleased when one was perfect. You will only loose hope when you quit planting. Ignore the culls and get the real thing and start over. Avoid trading for open pollinated seeds unless you want variety. Be happy when people are honest and tell you the seeds are open pollinated.

Planting seeds can be like tossing a coin at times. I still kept the ones that came out "wrong" because they carry the genes for the traits I`m looking for.

Thanks all for the offer of seeds. The truth is, I'm trying to down size at the moment, planting everything I have that is 2 years old or better to get fresh seeds, so I don't really want anymore seeds right now but thank you for thinking of me.

Like I said, I know it's silly to feel this way. I'll certainly get over it, but when I literally waltzed out to the greenhouse this morning with camera in hand after making myself do my morning chores like feeding Barney & Feif (who were doing an excellent performance of starving, neglected kittys) before I went out, what greeted me at the greenhouse door stopped me in my tracks.

At least I know the Gypsy Bride will be Gypsy Bride or paul had better start diggin a fox hole lol.

X,

i certainly don't think it is silly of you to feel that way.

I think that if i were in your shoes, expecting something that you truly wanted and ended up with something completely different -- and been burned by the same person.... i'd be ticked too.

I'd think more so if it were a rare seed.

but -- yes, we do get over things.

Oh I know how you feel!! Nothing like waiting for something you think is special and then it isn't!! I don't think that's silly at all, I have grown quite a few that turned out to be, what I guess, we all call common morning glory, not that there is anything wrong with them mind you...☺ But when we've traded or purchased for the sake of what we like, yes it can be a big disappointment. I enjoy waiting with camers in hand, on baited breath for my flowers to open!!!

How disappointing for you X. Probably no consolation, but the MG you posted is still beautiful.

Hey X, I looked around and I have planted all the Sunrise Serenade seeds. Then we will see if these come out right. If they come out right then I`m going to be putting little bags on the sunrise Serenade blooms and hand pollinating. If you want some of these seeds for free later on please let me know.

Sorry to hear this X. I would give the person a chance to rectify the situation by sending the actual seeds...but if they don't I think you could leave negative fb, just the facts.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I certainly feel a lot better today. Still bummed out though. I really was looking forward to seeing and photographing my first feathered double. I hadn't been that excited in years.

Thanks for all the tea and sympathy and understanding they aren't just seeds.
