Thanks .. it's not me .. it's the camera .. I'm learning it bit by bit and today I've started on the myriad of focus options. I've discovered I can get CLOSER!!!! I can't wait for microscope mode! lol

Nice closeup showing the central inner sepal with it's base overlapped by 2 of the outer sepals...

The 2 inner sepals always have their bases overlapped by outer sepals until the seedpod swells to the point that all of the sepals have non-overlapping bases...

Two of the outer sepals have bases which are always non-overlapped and there is 1 type of outer sepal which has only one side of it's base overlapped...

The differences between the shapes, structural features(e.g,distribution of hairs),heights and colorations of the inner and outer sepals are part of the differential taxanomic ID's...e.g.,most species have taller outer sepals, but in some species the inner sepals are longer and of a different coloration

X - Do you want to try for a photo that shows the type of outer sepal with only one side of it's base overlapped(?)...

I think this would help everyone to learn how to ID the species more effectively...

Ron

Here ya go.

On an aside, what is the best rechargeable battery? The energizers stink. They lose it after about 3 recharges. The sony's that came with the camera seem to be holding up after 10 recharges.

I use Ray-O-Vac 15minute rechargeables and I have been recharging them for about a year now. I can't even remember how may times I have recharged them!

Thanks .. I'll pick some up today to trade off with the sony's when they are recharging.

X - would you possibly be interested to add the photo here

to the PlantFiles general Ipomoea purpurea entry in the PlantFiles here as a close up showing the inner and outer sepals...(?)...
I'm thinking that the general entry is where it might best be used as a closeup structure reference ID photo for Ipomoea purpurea...

Thanks for any consideraration of the request...
