Seed, will you post a pic of your dichondra lawn?

What an original idea, good for you, no weeding and no mowing.

A big thanks to Julie...Here is the thread that started it all for me...

It has many gorgeous pictures of her lawn all done.

seed, how big is your yard?

Hi Lou, it is 1/2 acre

The front is just sprouts right now, so not much to see. And, the back is mostly between pavers...we have a LOT of pavers, lol...Julie's pictures show it better than mine right now, since hers has been done longer...

Well, I don't know about original, since I'm copying thousands of trend-setting Californians, but I certainly am happy about it. Although, I've gotten a LOT of flack from the neighbors...they still LOVE their grass. We even put up metal edging on both sides, so they wouldn't end up getting our "weeds", lol...

In the back baking between pavers around the pool, it held up really, really well last year. We tried it in the back first, to make sure we'd really like it. The pavers added extra heat, and it handled the extra heat & drought, like a breeze. It also doesn't get trimmings in the pool(since we don't have to mow or edge it) which really makes hubby happy. It stayed gorgeous green even with January and February teen temperatures, and even while covered with snow.

I also found out recently that it is a Texas native. I'm all for going native. :0)

Wondering if anyone has experience with four legged friends. Will is hold up to a heavy traffic pattern?

Is it thick enough to crowd out burmuda grass?

Knolan-
I'm sorry if I've distracted from this thread...on the flip side, we have Scott's bonus S, and roundup for places it isn't wanted.

podster-I don't have large dogs(just a tiny teacup one), but we two-legged ones do a LOT of walking on the back paver part.

Silverfluter-It is recommended to remove all grass before applying the dichondra seed, if dichondra is what you want. That is why we used a sod-cutter that we rented from Home Depot.
Bermuda is much harder to kill, than St. augustine. There were a few patches that were mixed in with my St. augustine, and even after using the sod cutter, I had to go back and remove the deeper-rooted bermuda BY HAND.

If my entire yard had been bermuda, I'd have resorted to using round-up on the entire yard. If you don't have a lot of utility lines in the way(which I DID) you could scalp mow, and then use a deep tiller? I'd just be concerned that the bits and pieces that got turned back into the soil would resprout...

Sorry guys - I've been away from the computer for a few days. Seedpicker - by all means....distract and have fun!

Pod - I think you've already figured out my strategy. As long as I can keep it outta the beds, it can have the yard.
