new minis arriving at nurseries in CC

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

They were unloading these yesterday when I arrived....the other location is holding at least 10 more for me to pick up tomorrow. Then I stopped by Walmart on the way home this afternoon and found some standards...I will have to let these babies grow a little to even know what I have. The standards are just pretty noids. The minis may be also......I don't know...

Gail,You weren't kidding when you said you bought some new ones.LOL They are all really pretty, even the ones not blooming yet. Those silly leaves should relax and smooth out once you get them on your shelves and give them room to relax : ) I really(REALLY) want that 11th one posted at 6:10 you have pictured.LOL I neeed that one : )) Such pretties you found!

What is "CC"? I really like some of those mini ones very much. I am so partial to variegated foliage. You certainly were blessed today. My gosh. Were there any markings or labels on or in the pots?

St Joseph, IL(Zone 5b)

Nice finds Gail...way to go. They are all beautiful.

cedarnest...that was the only one at that particular nursery, but i am going back to the other location in the morning...she is holding 10 unknown but there should be alot more than ten left...I will try to get you one.....if someone has a request, better tell me tonight.(can't promise....only try and will be happy to look )....she told me that she unpacked 36 this afternoon.....CC is our closest place to civilization...Corpus Christi, Texas....there are lots of small towns around here.....takes me an hour to get out there, but I am used to going for anything I need. (african violets are a necessity, not in the category of 'want'....right???) At the second location where I am going tomorrow, there is a lady there who has been begging the owner to start letting her order all kinds of AV's...now he knows how quickly they sell. She also told me that she would be placing another order in about 3 weeks....if I asked her she would try to get whatever I wanted. All she told me was she was very active in local AV society and that she ordered these from Florida....there are no tags on them of any kind...even the grower. It really makes me wonder where they are being grown???
If you miss on this go around, I know she will be ordering soon she said. I am giving TMI but I have to get to Corpus and back by 11:00 am to feed 15 men working on the Habitat for Humanity...one of the few things I commit to every week...so speak up if you want anything...if you do it by dmail I can make a list..
gail.....I do feel lucky as I have such an affinity for variegated foliage ....even on all plants.
PS...I was thinking they were 3.00 each, but I looked and they are 4.00 each...the minis...I don't know but I think that is a very good price..

You found some pretty little babies! Look at those firecracker red nails!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

acrylic of course (LOL) I haven't tried in years to grow nails as my hands are always in the dirt....as my grandchildren always say, "Nana, your wrinkles on your hands make you look as old as Granny"......Granny being the other grandmother who is 15 years older, but you can always recognize a gardener's wrinkles as she ages...

Such a neat thing you do with habitat for humanity Gail.Wish we had more of those projects to be involved in here.Don't worry if they don't have another like 11.I wouldn't ask you to part with your only one.We already have a few we are working on for our trade.I really do think un named Noids are sometimes just as pretty as named ones(some even prettier) I really need to get into the city and check if they have any new shipments here.

Those are some beauties. $4.00 is a great price. I go for foliage also--they can't always be in bloom so beautiful foliage is a plus. I'd definitely drive an hour for those. Nurseries around here NEVER have anything like those.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

WOW.There beautiful,I would love to trade some leaves with you:)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

jannich....I am real scatterbrained....please dmail me so I can keep track.....would love to trade leaves with you......
Cedarnest...I am out of here in a few minutes and I will look ever so hard for the one you really want.

Oh Gail .... I LOVE those Mini's ... I want the ones in photo's 10, 11, 14 and 16 ..... Beautiful!

I have a question for some of you pro's out there .... when the leaves are all kinda folded upwards like in Gail's last photo above, could that be from crowding a lot of plants together? I've been thinking about this when I see plants in the Garden Centers .... and wondering if the growers have so many that they are all crammed together, so the plants are "reaching" for more space? I know in the past I have bought a couple growing like that, but after a short while, the leaves eventually lay down like they are supposed to, so I was wondering if it's something with crowding at the nurseries where they are grown.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

plantladylin - I think you're right about plants being grown close together and they reach up for light.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Let me show you how they are flattening out and then I have to show you the first blooms....can't wait to see what we have.....
