Peppermint Ornamental Peach Tree

Cypress, TX

Bedazzled by its beauty and the nursery person's easy care sales pitch, I bought this tree before studying it! Now I need to know how to care for it!!! Is it prone to fungus, disease, and bugs? If so, what kind of chemicals should I use? What should I feed it? The nursery person said that they had cropped off the crown to make it branch out. Does anyone know how much more pruning it needs yearly? Hopefully some of you knowledgeable gardeners will be able to help me --- I do appreciate you and this forum!!! TM

Gorgeous flwoers! Is this a peach grown primarily as an ornamental or as a fruit-bearing tree? Fruit producing peaches, in my opinion, need a lot of attention. Usually, the ornamentals need very little.

Hello Scott, thanks for the reply. It's an ornamental peppermint peach tree. Glad to hear there is little care. TM

tillymarie, I hope you'll share an image or two, and your observations about this tree here, too: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/157448/index.html

Tillymarie,

I should've said "less care" as opposed to "little care." Usually, these trees are fine, like most ornamental cherries. However, you might want to watch for gummy sap collecting along the trunk, which often indicates a problem with borers. If the foliage looks awful by mid-season, you might have to consider a foliar spray, but I would recommend you just enjoy the tree and observe for issues that might happen and address them if and when they happen.

It is very pretty, I can see where it got its name from. Good score tillymarie!
