This morning on my way out the door I got a pleasant surprise; a yellow crocus had bloomed and when I got home an Iris Reticulata had bloomed! Yay! My King Alfred Daffodils are sending up blooms as well. I think that the garden space next to the house (built with concrete blocks) is warmer than the back garden as these are my only bulbs popping up. Now let's hope that there's no more snow on the way....
Spring is Here! First Bulb Blooms....
What a lovely crocus. It really is the first sign of spring - other than birds.
You are so lucky to be able to grow reticulata. Too cold for them here. Our first iris here are alwaysthe sdbs. (dwarf iris). Still many weeks away from iris bloom here.

fancy - yours will come.
Mine are starting to come up but the bunnies or squirrels are also munching as they do.
Ann
ohhh....that reminds me, I gotta get the bone meal spread so they don't eat mine....!!!
Your spring bulbs are ahead of mine in growth Redkarnelian, so you must have a mini micro climate in that spot. Very vibrant-coloured blooms!
I double-checked the front gardens this morning and I have very noticeable growth from tulips, daffs, muscari, Anemone coronaria, Stella D'oro, Ipheion uniflorum, and crocuses. It's amazing how only one day of high temps brought everyone out of the ground!
Like you Ann, critters have been nibbling and digging holes where some of my hostas are. I can handle the destruction of my bulbs but NOT MY HOSTAS, grrrrr.

Ah but yesterday it was really spring! sunshine, nice and warm ,out in the yard in short sleeves.
I actually have a lot of bulbs up in the south house bed and even a few tiny blooms - but they keep getting covered up by each spring snow. (March is one of our snowiest months) Well it is good moisture - expecially today which is VERY wet snow. My foxtail lilies are up a couple of inches - they did not do well last year - no flowers after 3 good years so I am hoping to have some flowers this year.
We've had something called Bear's Breeches trying to grow in the front garden for 3 years. This Spring it looked like it finally was about to grow. Well we noticed the tell tale signs of deer prints in the garden and chewed tulips. Then a few days later, they were back and there's no sign of the Bear's Breeches. It must've been tasty.
Here's a fawn lily taken today while walking the dog. Have also included a photo of the dog Cooper.
He's turning out to be a handsome fellow, Linda.
I didn't like to hear that part about the Bear's Breeches - I have one that I planted last year and and was hoping to see great things from it this year. I had better go and get the meat meal sprinkled on it !

Cooper is beautiful! What a hansome guy he is, I bet you and Cheryl are enjoying him a whole bunch.
I was watching him grow with your photo's and then they stopped coming so it's great to see him again.
Doesn't he keep the deer out?
Ann
The anticipation!
I love when they're just pushing their noses up into the world, and have several a little behind yours.
S P R I N G! is really here.
I'm still awaitin' the first spring flowers but if ViolaAnn has crocus, then I know ours won't be too far off! Redkarnelian, I love your first two photos - yellow and blue just sings spring to me.
Sandy
Aww, darn, I thought yours were blooming already. Ooooo, verrrrrry lovely, Ann!
Sandy
Very nice Ann! My crocus are up fully now but didn't want to open today; probably too cold and wet.
Well it was spring for a few days again this week. Some of my hepaticas have started to bloom, lots of daffs and other small bulbs up in my south house bed even the rhubarb and spotted some little red nubs on one of my oldest peonies when I pushed the leaves back a bit. . But today it is winter again! Sigh.
Had a small group of hort members over - we use the chat forum a lot - and today we had a face to face brunch. Much good food and nice to put faces to names!
Oh Carol
We got this too. It teased us on Saturday moring and actualy melted away. Today is Monday and we are shoveling the white stuff!. The weather man said today that we have had 158 days of snow -with snow in 7 months straight. It started the end of October and now it's into April. Oh well I know it will melt quickly.
I am getting a bit tired of wiping wet paws though.
Looking forward to June.
Ann
oooooooo.....what are those pretty little things?????
Lovely pix Ann! How refreshing. And timely. (Snowing hear...again. sob).
Joanne
Ann, yes, isn't it glorious to see the sun! Jeepers, how long has it been? Lovely carpet of crocus you have there!
Sandy
Fancy - you have my sympathies.
Oh my! I guess I'll quit grumbling and complaining about our (un)spring weather now. I feel absolutely blessed in comparison to you.
