I have been thinking. Hmm. If those of us that I. indica, get together this summer to trade pollen, then we might all get some seeds from introducing new pollen.
Of course, we all need to think early about the names of the ones we have, because there is so much confusion about the names. I. indica Blue Dawn is a clone name to me. Yet I see it is offered from coast to coast, and they don't all look like clones to me.
I think what we need is a pollen source from the wild, to pollenate the ones that have been in captivity for so long and shared frequently. Wild pollen from the gulf states, would seem to help us turn the corner on getting some seeds.
If this is too much of a long shot, or it has been tried before, lets discuss it. Frank

the common names for Ipomoea indica are used for the clones that are available as well as for many of the wild strains from different geographic localities...
Ipomoea indica does produce seeds in the wild when the plants are self-fertilized or cross-fertilized by plants that have compatible pollen...seeds have also already been produced by plants in home gardens when the plants were self or cross pollinated by compatible pollen...
I've thought it interesting to obtain Ipomoea indica plants from different locations to cross fertilize and produce seeds having the potential to display qualities of both filial parents...
I had previously mentioned a company in France who offers several types of Ipomoea indica...this company will ship to the US,but relayed that they have to charge alittle more than usual due to needing to re-package the plants to meet US requirements...they told me that the plants roots had to be placed in vermiculite or other soiless mixture...this is probably to comply with US 'efforts' to prevent the spread of Prions...which is virtually impossible...
Here's the link to Hodnik company in France...they can correspond in English...
